On 3/5 a day trip JFK-SFO-JFK is not possible :(

I noticed this as well. There are definitely some fare restrictions in the rules because each individual flight is totally available. Will check out the rules.

This was possible 2 days ago. ;) If you purchase 'up' and you have AS status, they'll move you to a seat closer to the front with more legroom; and if you're really lucky, you'll get the much coveted upgrade to first class. My R/T fare booked several weeks ago was $192. I purchased as two 1 ways in case I had schedule issues. That extra $25 each way more than paid for itself with a meal and a drink. :o I did an immediate turn to fly the redeye home.

Miles posted the next day. Just shy of 8000 miles for a 5100 ish mile R/T.

Fewer s correct! 21 fewer, 42 return. 2579 vs 2558.

Trivia: SFO is closer to HNL than JFK yet LAX is closer to JFK than HNL.

Yes, South of SFO the California coast travels a long ways East. In fact, Reno Nevada is further West than Los Angeles. Something to consider when you are trying to maximize flight distances.

Maybe I am spoiled (I probably am). This is more than I would want to pay. Though I may do it, I might need to go to SFO for a day next month.

Not able to find that low of a fare from SFO to JFK.

This is from February (or March for the slightly higher fare). This has sadly been dead for several weeks now.
