Now the above fare has gone down to $330 rt. And many dates available with $200+ rt from Bay Area. What's the best way to use this for status? Is it possible to Fly in and out with passing immigration? I know currently Japan is not allowing tourist in.

I believe Japan is only allowing a transit in NRT at the moment if the origin and destination are in different countries.

Ooh! Thanks! I have a $259 fare from DCA, but I’d rather pick one up from the west coast.

A fun thought experiment ...
The low fare works for a one-way fare, and works with multi-city tickets so long as it ends in NRT/HND. As such, it's possible to one way to a bunch of US cities, even expensive ones like the Hawaiian islands, JAC, ASE etc. for anywhere between $130 and $250 using the XXX-NRT/HND as a throwaway
Book at your own risk of course with the standard throwaway risks, but still interesting...
