LA: MIA-IQT from $278 (earn 10000 Alaska RDMs)

Alaska is having a promo with Partner airlines till year end which offers a minimum of 5000 RDMs per segment to/from the USA.

That makes this Economy trip from Miami to Iquitos, Peru of interest... Fare is just $278 and you can even travel during Thanksgiving... It books into O class so just 25% EQMs but the minimum RDMs makes it attractive...

Google Flights

Or you can just buy 10,000 Mileage Plan miles unbonused for $275. 25% EQM is 1,044 or 26.63 cpm. Not very attractive....

Just like the MIA-LIM fare, good price if you are going there but by no means is it a Mileage Run, which is the topic of this thread. It would better be located in the Sticky good deals economy class excellent fares between certain city pairs

I disagree it certainly makes it interesting for the RDMs.

AS is the last program where the traditional "mileage run" even make sense these days.

Good luck figuring out your PQP situation.

You could also do MIA-CLO for $177 on American Airlines. (Alaska changed the rules and now designates AA as a global partner for the 10,000 mile min promo). You also get the bonus elite tier mile based on class flown. I can confirm the double dip. I got my 5,000 miles for a LAX-NAN flight PLUS the elite tier bonus miles of 6,156

Nice, wasn't 100% sure how things were between AA/AS but that's a good data point...

LAX-NAN IS 5519 miles. If you only received 5000 then you were in T, N, or R class that earns at the 50% rate. 5,519/2 = 2,260 EQM/RDM. With the promotion, your RDM is bumped up to 5,000. Therefore, EQM 2,260, RDM 5,000.

The Elite RDM bonus is not a double-dip. It is a bonus for Elite Members, separate from the earning charts, and applies to all flights, domestic or international on AS or any of AS' partners eligible flights and is calculated on the "base" miles flown. Your base miles will never exceed actual miles flown except where a 500 mile minimum is applied. There is no 500 mile minimum on CX flights, for example. If your class of service earns less than 100% then the bonus is reduced proportionately.

Elite bonuses are MVP 50%, MVPG 100% & MVPG75K 125%.

Going back to our LAX-NAN flight earning EQM/RDM in a 50% fare class you would earn the following EQM/RDM

No status: 2,260 / 5,000
MVP 2,260 / 5,000+50%(2,260) = 6,130*
MVPG 2,260 / 5,000+100%(2,260) = 7,260
MVPG75K 2,260 / 5,000+125%(2,260) = 7,825.

From these calculations, it is apparent that you are an AS MVP Elite and flew in T, N, R on FJ between Los Angeles & Nadi. On the AS website, class of service, Elite & any promotional bonuses are lumped together. 6156 is the total RDM you earned.

*There is often a slight difference between the actual miles used by AS and MileCalc that I use to determine distances between cities.

Your AA MIA-CLO example is Basic Economy. B class fares on AA earn Zero in Mileage Plan. For $40 more you could move up to Economy. That puts the price at $217 and the differential between flying for 10K RDM miles and buying 10K unbonused RDM miles is $58. If you could do an immediate turn, it might be a fun flight it you weren't concerned about the EQM for status requalification, but the schedule would require an overnight which kind of negates any advantage. If EQM is important to you, you would earn a whopping 776 EQM, for $217. Cost breakdown RDM 2.17 cpm, EQM 27.96 cpm

Yet again, if you have plans for MIA-CLO, not a bad fare. The BE fare on AA isn't eligible to earn anything in MP and the upfare to earn 10K RDM on the AS promotion isn't even remotely akin to a MR, especially when an immediate turn isn't possible even if EQM are of no concern to you.

You can find the latest on the AA/AS partnership here. You can also get the earning chart for all AS partners as well. At the end of each chart please click on details for specifics on that partner.
