UA: LAX - HKG or SIN at 2.57 cpm to 3.81 cpm
I regularly monitor United Airlines coach fares from LAX to HKG, MEL, SIN and SYD. I also throw in ICN, HND, NRT and TPE, but don't follow them as diligently.
Right now, if you're prepared to spend time changing planes, there are some good deals to HKG. I have selected only flights on UA metal. If you want to find cheaper prices involving mostly UA, you also have to add legs on either Asiana, AIr Japan or Hong Kong Airlines. The very best UA fare I found was $453 and involved NRT/HKG on Air Japan. Here are some routes and prices. Keep in mind that pricing is dynamic; these fares were researched last night (May 11, 2019). HONG KONG LAX/SFO/HKG/SFO/LAX (overnight in HKG) 14,828 May 12: $474 r/t -- 3.197 cpm Nov 10: $505 r/t -- 3.406 cpm LAX/HNL/GUM/HKG/GUM/HNL/LAX (overnight in HKG) 16,948 Nov 04: $461 r/t -- 2.72 cpm Nov 11: $461 r/t -- 2.72 cpm Nov 18: $461 r/t -- 2.72 cpm Oct 16: $496 r/t -- 2.927 cpm Dec 08: $501 r/t -- 2.956 cpm The $461 fare above is one of the best deals in terms of cpm that I could find. There are a few offerings where the journey involves LAX/SFO . . .SFO/LAX, which adds an extra 1000 miles and drops the cpm to 2.569. This fare/itinerary itinerary has shown up a few times, October 28, for example. MELBOURNE, Australia LAX/MEL/LAX (Quick turn) 15,840 Nothing I could find no deals on the flight to MEL. It has gotten as low as $607 r/t; there were multiple occurrences of this fare up to mid-April. The cpm is 3.832, which while great isn't as good as some of the other fares mentioned above. It has the advantage of being a quick turn. The flight leaves at 10 pm and gets back in, two days later at 6:40 am, so it involves the use of a single full day. United is adding SFO/MEL in late October, which may have a beneficial impact on the fare; I will keep monitoring. When LAX/SIN was added in 2017, fares dropped under $500 on that route for a few weeks. In general, fares to HKG are good on a cpm basis, but eat up a lot of time and involve an overnight stay in Hong Kong. I like both SIN and MEL--SIN is better in terms of time invested. There are currently no good mileage runs on UA (metal) to Europe or TLV. |

Right, my point was that a lot of those routes are published by United, many will have segments outside of UA operated routes, but some fun searching nonetheless. Good finds by the way, keep up the good work. :) |

A fare of $465 is available on September 1, 2 and October 29; $475 is available on September 15 and 16. Each can be had for a rate of 2.768 cpm. It looks as if there are two overnights; one, tomorrow, in Las Vegas. |

Most other days are now $50 or so more expensive than when I provided them last week. Similarly, LAX/SIN fares have climbed too. In many cases, the least expensive, $688 or so, involved flying over on UA001 and back on UA028: a twelve hour layover in Singapore. I’ve seen the same thing as you: fares move around. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them drop again soon. I’d love to live in Toronto: there are r/t fares to SIN via SFO on UA for $602 later this year. It makes it harder to do back-to-back MRs. |

UA: LAX to HKG is on sale today
Just a quick heads up that I did a survey of prices from LAX area airports (LAX, BUR, SNA, ONT) to HKG via SFO (14,828 miles r/t) and fares have dropped today.
Looking out 330 days, there are 65 days with round-trip fares under $500 (compared to 6 days yesterday and 33 on 5/23--the most recent day with the most cheap fares); there are 100 days with fares under $600 (the figure was 81 yesterday and 98 on May 21). On United, at least, the lowest fare price is lower than normal today. September 3 showed the lowest fare of $448 round trip. Some of these fares require a return via GUM and HNL, which generates 15,888 miles. |

Fares to HKG from LAX on United reached a multi-month low today. This post includes some of those fares. It's worth searching around the dates mentioned, as not all low fares were included in this survey. When you're offered $448 r/t, $500 no longer seems like a bargain!

Interesting, starting on May 31, the figure was 8 days, so for these relatively inexpensive fares, the offering is back where it was during the last two weeks in May. Before May 18, on many days, only 1 day in the 330 window had a fare under $500. There were 32 days in the next 330 with fares under $600; the comparable figure was 100 yesterday. Since 30 of those days had fare under $500, it means that there are only two days during the forthcoming 11 months with fares between $500 and $600. Of course, fares are volatile, so who knows how things will change later on today. |
