VS: LAX-JNB r/t $776.33 ai (3.5cpm, 22150 MQM on DL)
Price is for Economy Light, which excludes seat selection (which you will get at check-in) or you can upgrade to Economy Classic for $866.33 r/t ai (3.91cpm) which includes seat selection at booking. Economy Light books into T, Economy Classic books into O.
Credit to DL for 100% MQM, 25% RDM, 5% MQD.
Available dates are from October 10th through December 9th, January 10th through Mach 31st. Saturday night stay required, meaning earliest departure is the Sunday evening flight back to Heathrow. For the very brave, it can be done leaving LAX Friday night at 8 PM, returning by late afternoon into LAX.
There are also some SkyTeam fares ex-JNB to European destinations like AGP (Malaga, Spain), BCN, and a handful of other cities in the $500s (typically with Alitalia). Then you could pair it with the Secret Flying fare posted earlier (they had posted BCN-ORD, but I found it to LAX as well) for $365 roundtrip BCN-LAX.
Three nested trips could get you:
LAX-LHR-JNB on VS
JNB-FCO-XXX on AZ/AF/KL
XXX-CDG/AMS-LAX on AF/KL/DL
Which equals approximately 45,000 miles for about 3.7cpm.
