Look for the dates on Google Flights, then book via AA Vacations.

Books into special O* fare

No, they do not.

One has to be familiar with these special fares and rules.

You have to look for special codes

Booking Code: O -> you will get regular spend based RDM and EQD
Booking Code: O* -> special fare

This is a pretty sweet mileage run considering you get a hotel room for the weekend too. How do you find these?

Yes, OK, so let's go to the T&C's:
Systemwide upgrades aren’t available when you’ve booked:
  • Codeshare flights, including flights marketed by American and operated by other airlines
  • Government or military fares
  • Fares ineligible for mileage credit (like award tickets)
  • Basic Economy fare tickets

Not this particular deal as the flight is NOT on AA metal. It is code share with Japan Airlines.

Visa is definitely required. Indian nationals are eligible to use the e-visa process.
