Transportation options from HGH to Hangzhou city center or PVG. Please add your name and your itinerary if you are interested in meeting other fellow FTers.
1) Taxi to Hangzhou city center, about 100 RMB ($15) for the entire party, not per person, walking from international terminal to domestic terminal (i.e., right turn after you get outside of the international terminal building), you will see taxi queue.
2) Shuttle bus, 20 RMB ($3), to Wulinmen CAAC Ticket Office or East Railway Station Line (two most popular options). The waiting hall for the shuttle bus is at Gate 10 (you can purchase ticket at Gate 14, too) Arrival Hall, on the first floor of the terminal building. Further details, see https://www.travelchinaguide.com/cit...ation.htm#hang
3) Shuttle from Hangzhou city center to PVG, 110 RMB, 3.5 hours: a) Wulinmen Ticket Office Central Hangzhou to PVG: (5:30, 6:10, 7:00, 8:00, 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, 17:00)
b) Hangzhou Dragon Sports Center to PVG, 110 RMB, (7:00, 8:30, 10:30, 12:30, 14:30, 16:00
). Further details, see https://traveladept.com/bus-pudong-hangzhou/
4) Train from Hangzhou East station to Shanghai Hongqiao; less than 100 RMB (~1 hr); then you can take Subway Line #2 to PVG, ~10 RMB and 2 hrs; or shuttle bus (Airport Line #1), about 1 hr, 30 RMB ($4.5), every 15 - 25 minutes. The Hangzhou East ticketing windows are located on 1st Floor, EAST Area of the station. Please allow 20-30 minutes for walking to 2nd floor departure, and security check. The frequency of Hangzhou-Hongqiao trains is as good as that of subways in many US cities.
5) Getting cash at HGH The international terminal at HGH (where you arrive) only has an exchange vendor with hefty fees that is open limited hours. However, the adjacent domestic terminal has a bank ATM. To get to the entrance of the domestic terminal, exit the international terminal and keep walking right, past the taxi stand. Then enter and take the escalator to the second floor. The bank ATM will be on your left, next to the escalator.
6 Getting TWOV without issues The advice is to print out your itinerary, hotel reservation, etc., to speed up the procedure at the entry point in China. At SFO, the check-in agents were clueless, so be prepared to get there very early and fight for your boarding passes. Please read the last few pages on this thread for first-hand experiences. Good luck. There is a thread on FT for further details. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/china...hread-231.html

ATM To get to the entrance of the domestic terminal, exit the international terminal and keep walking right, past the taxi stand. Then enter and take the escalator to the second floor. The bank ATM will be on your left, next to the escalator.

Travel information for Beijing and airport:
Beijing will have 2 hubs starting Sept 30,2019. PEK (Beijing Capital International Airport) is original main hub and will continue for Star Alliance flights and Cathay Pacific (including subsidiary Cathay Dragon Air). PKX (Beijing Daxing International Airport, will debut Sept 30, 2019)
planned for airlines of the SkyTeam alliance and One World Alliance (AA, BA, etc. except Cathay Pacific) will be relocated to the new airport. Most flyers taking advantage of this China OJ deal will continue fly through PEK. Some people who use positioning flights through Beijing using non-Star Alliance airlines need to make sure you are flying into PEK, or else need 2hr ground transportation from PKX to PEK.
PEK allows TWOV within 24hr to stay inside security zone airside. This is more convenient for immediate turn than Shanghai-PVG, which force all passengers to exit immigration and customs, then re-check in from land side, even if you have immediate turn within 24hr.

Yeah, I've noticed that GF prices jump up from $116 to $238 starting on January 1...and I don't see any other $116 fares for as far out as I can book right now. Not sure what's going on with that!

Regarding getting stamps, I seem to recall something in this other thread, but I can't remember for sure: UA - LAX-SFO-HIKA-Guam and return via UA Pacific Islands $442 <2.8cps

Or there's this thread also: UA's Micronesia Island Hopper - consolidated questions, advice

$479 from east coast (PHL)

Looking to book this as a cheap getaway to Asia. I live in the NYC area. Best I could find was $479 out of PHL and $484 out of BWI. This prices to $390 out of LAX.

I would prefer to go late January but had no luck finding anything. Also, anyone know if it's possible to go straight to mainland China on this itinerary on the outbound?

Secretflying created a post today, from Canadian cities ( East: Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, West: Calgary, Vancouver) to Singapore, returning from Beijing for as low as $515 CDN (roughly $394 USD) on United/ANA.

I see connecting from SIN to PEK is pricey and time consuming, direct flights are hundreds of dollars. I was able to get YEG-SIN for 800 all in, which seems like the better deal

I was looking at the SIN-PEK SF thing. You're right, PEK one ways are incredibly expensive. I did one of these earlier this year where I found a good deal on AC to fly into HK and out of PEK, I ended up using miles to fly on CX to the places I wanted to be.

I've been working tirelessly all day to try and find something that suits me to BKK/PNH/RGN/TPE and doesn't cost an arm and a leg between/to/from. There are options, but nothing nearly as cheap as the SF deal. If you wanna hit SIN and wanna visit PEK it's a good deal, because even at $200 that's still a good deal, but if you're not interested in either of those cities (and I'm not) then the triangle multi-city flight is stupid expensive unless you're just gonna use miles, which I don't really wanna do again.

You know what though, on second thought, if for some reason you needed a cheap 1-way to SIN or to PEK it's a good deal too. It's not exactly the same price PEK then ex-SIN but it's not that much more either. So that's an option for those that it applies to.

You can fly Scoot from SIN to TSN (Tianjin, near Beijing and still valid for Beijing 144h TWOV).
It's a direct flight for about 117 USD on a 787.

The less troublesome deal may be Canada-Singapore round trip for $611 (google search; slightly higher on united.com). After about Oct. 28 when UA starts twice-daily SFO-SIN flights, you can have 14 hours on ground (arriving at 8:00 am and leaving at 10:00 pm). You can search YUL/YYZ/YOW-LAX, LAX-SIN, SIN-IAD, IAD-YUL/YYZ/YOW. For example, if you depart from YUL, you can get YUL-IAD-LAX-SFO-SIN-SFO-EWR-IAD-YUL to maximize your PQM. The cpm is about 2.6 with 500 min miles. Here is an example: https://www.google.com/flights#flt=Y...024*.USD.61024

I saw the SIN round trip thing in my searching, started building there. It's pretty simple from YVR, but wanted to get a good price + 2 destinations I wanted to visit. TPE-RGN was where I landed, but flights between the two were like $250 CAD, which was the same reason I balked at SIN-PEK, hadn't thought of TSN, but even $117 USD + cost to PEK and spending a night (probably) in PEK I think I'm gonna end up with BKK-RGN. Good prices all around though, Air China isn't the greatest, but on the right days/routes you can find L fares OJ return from like $625ish CAD and those will credit 100% to AV, the crediting for CA flights is odd, some partners give them like 30-50% kinda across the board, then there's AV who give 100% on some and only 25% on others all within the lower bracket of fares.

CA L fare was a very high fare until April 2016 when it became a cheapo economy fare. Most *A partners updated their charts to reflect that but some like AV still have not. Since it has lasted so long it might continue for a while but note the possibility of it changing without much or any notice.

I'm trying to find one that works for me both price wise & destination but just can't make it work.

Live in YVR, so ex-YVR/YYJ/SEA are all doable (PDX too, but not as easily). Wanna be in South East Asia (doesn't totally matter where, but BKK/RGN/PNH are on my list HKG/TPE work if it's their the only doable ones) from like Oct 24/25/26-Nov 4/5 then in DTW on Nov 6, I can always tack on a one way from DTW-YVR on Nov 7.

If anyone has the magic formula, feel free to link me. I've tried lots of machinations and can't come up with something that resembles the right price, maybe DTW is the sticking point, maybe originating in Canada is the sticking point.

The only other downer is the cost from XXX-PEK, can be kinda pricey, I've got enough miles from diff programs to do that though if need be. If I can find something on my own I'll post the result, but to this point, I haven't cracked the code yet, I had better luck with the HGH-PEK thing.

@drvannostren, just curious, you are able to do it with HGH-PEK OJ? if so you can find some cheap return flights from China to SE Asia on MH/Air Asia/Scoot. Sometimes CZ offers pretty decent deal for flight out of Shanghai and nearby area as well.

i'm unable to find deals transferring DTW so maybe the fare class to DTW is rare and high? probably worth going to ORD?
I'm also unable to find back-tracking deals... i remember somewhere above has posted about restriction on this? so you can't go back from ORD-YVR.

EDIT:here is one that back to YYZ from PNH:
