Transportation options from HGH to Hangzhou city center or PVG. Please add your name and your itinerary if you are interested in meeting other fellow FTers.
1) Taxi to Hangzhou city center, about 100 RMB ($15) for the entire party, not per person, walking from international terminal to domestic terminal (i.e., right turn after you get outside of the international terminal building), you will see taxi queue.
2) Shuttle bus, 20 RMB ($3), to Wulinmen CAAC Ticket Office or East Railway Station Line (two most popular options). The waiting hall for the shuttle bus is at Gate 10 (you can purchase ticket at Gate 14, too) Arrival Hall, on the first floor of the terminal building. Further details, see https://www.travelchinaguide.com/cit...ation.htm#hang
3) Shuttle from Hangzhou city center to PVG, 110 RMB, 3.5 hours: a) Wulinmen Ticket Office Central Hangzhou to PVG: (5:30, 6:10, 7:00, 8:00, 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, 17:00)
b) Hangzhou Dragon Sports Center to PVG, 110 RMB, (7:00, 8:30, 10:30, 12:30, 14:30, 16:00 ). Further details, see https://traveladept.com/bus-pudong-hangzhou/
4) Train from Hangzhou East station to Shanghai Hongqiao; less than 100 RMB (~1 hr); then you can take Subway Line #2 to PVG, ~10 RMB and 2 hrs; or shuttle bus (Airport Line #1), about 1 hr, 30 RMB ($4.5), every 15 - 25 minutes. The Hangzhou East ticketing windows are located on 1st Floor, EAST Area of the station. Please allow 20-30 minutes for walking to 2nd floor departure, and security check. The frequency of Hangzhou-Hongqiao trains is as good as that of subways in many US cities.
5) Getting cash at HGH The international terminal at HGH (where you arrive) only has an exchange vendor with hefty fees that is open limited hours. However, the adjacent domestic terminal has a bank ATM. To get to the entrance of the domestic terminal, exit the international terminal and keep walking right, past the taxi stand. Then enter and take the escalator to the second floor. The bank ATM will be on your left, next to the escalator.
6 Getting TWOV without issues The advice is to print out your itinerary, hotel reservation, etc., to speed up the procedure at the entry point in China. At SFO, the check-in agents were clueless, so be prepared to get there very early and fight for your boarding passes. Please read the last few pages on this thread for first-hand experiences. Good luck. There is a thread on FT for further details. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/china...hread-231.html

Travel information for Beijing and airport:
Beijing will have 2 hubs starting Sept 30,2019. PEK (Beijing Capital International Airport) is original main hub and will continue for Star Alliance flights and Cathay Pacific (including subsidiary Cathay Dragon Air). PKX (Beijing Daxing International Airport, will debut Sept 30, 2019) planned for airlines of the SkyTeam alliance and One World Alliance (AA, BA, etc. except Cathay Pacific) will be relocated to the new airport. Most flyers taking advantage of this China OJ deal will continue fly through PEK. Some people who use positioning flights through Beijing using non-Star Alliance airlines need to make sure you are flying into PEK, or else need 2hr ground transportation from PKX to PEK.
PEK allows TWOV within 24hr to stay inside security zone airside. This is more convenient for immediate turn than Shanghai-PVG, which force all passengers to exit immigration and customs, then re-check in from land side, even if you have immediate turn within 24hr.

Apart from HKG, what other airports could this terminate into/fly out back from China? I got a pretty sweat itinerary lined up for me and my wife with 2 days in HKG and 2 days in PEK but I want to see if we could terminate somewhere else instead of HKG and then fly to PEK.
Would've loved Japan but flying from HKG to Tokyo kills it at $400 PP

Last question before I finally book this, as I couldn't yesterday
A) If i fly from HNL-LAX on UA, do they check my back all the way to Toronto/Montreal if I connect into AC? As I'm staying 5 days in HKG and PEK, I need to take a bag. My plan is to end my trip at LAX while connecting.
B) Would they check my passport at either PEK/GUM/HNL to see if I have a Canadian visa? I'm Costa Rican so I need a Canada visa if I were to enter, but I don't plan on doing it. Not sure if I would just be referred to check in at AC at LAX. I would have a 12 hour layover according to my itinerary. I guess I could always say I'm just transiting, which I don't need a visa for but then again don't have a flight out of Canada.

but you also need Canadian visa, at check in at PEK they will check BOTH your US and Canadian entrance eligibility, so you need to get a Canadian visa, even you are not planning to use it.

You have to pick up your bag at LAX. At that time, you can just walk out of the terminal with no problem, along with your bag.

This almost killed it but I can apply to a free canadian transit visa. I'm hoping that they won't go as far as checking if I actually have a connecting flight?

Thanks to all, my wife and I are booked flying out on Nov 7, spending 4 days in Hong Kong and Beijing, a night in Guam, an entire day in Honolulu before flying back to LAX and hopping off. Our tickets cost us $383 and I took advantage of an offer to fly Economy Plus on the Island Hopper for $110 pp. Paid $998 for both of us. We're really happy, as normally this would run for about 6K and we're only paying $1800 for our tickets with our positioning to LAX from SJO.
Just wondering on getting to Beijing from Hong Kong. Apparently there's a new high speed rail that should open in Q3 this year from Beijing to Hong Kong but there is limited info. Only real option is to fly China Southern for about $256 PP. Which is higher than the $116 GF initially said. Anyone hear about it or should I just shell out the CZ flight?

Thank you VERY much! That's actually the weekend of my birthday, so now I know what I want to do for my birthday next year! I was actually to find flights for $353 each, so I'm really (REALLY) looking into this, but am still concerned about part of the trip (see below)...
I was just looking into getting from HKG to PEK also. I had not heard about the high speed rail. I'm guessing a google search will give me some more info on that? Where did you hear about it? Anyone else have any other recommendations? The day I'm looking at flying the flights are only $238 each on CZ. So, adding in the cost of that flight, plus my positioning flight from DEN to LAX, I'm looking at about $750 on flights alone. I'd really like to find out if there's a cheaper way to get from HKG to PEK!

And a quick google search will you a few that say September 2018 as the opening data. I think I kinda fell for Google Flights telling me it was only $116, and then magically going to $238. I found them for about $138 on Momondo booking with Zuji but it doesn't really strike me with confidence.

I might actually look into that for my trip, if I can't find anything about the new high speed from Hong Kong to Beijing. It's cheaper than a flight, and it eliminates the need for 1 night in a hotel, which saves additional money.

Looks like there is a high speed train from Shenzen (which is reachable via Metro from Hong Kong) to Beijing. ~$190 each for a sleeper on an 11 hour overnight journey. It's bookable right now, I believe. Here is a sample near your travel dates (I'm not sure exactly when you're looking to travel from Hong Kong to Beijing:

Here's something from it: Apparently these are available on that same line
