Transportation options from HGH to Hangzhou city center or PVG. Please add your name and your itinerary if you are interested in meeting other fellow FTers.
1) Taxi to Hangzhou city center, about 100 RMB ($15) for the entire party, not per person, walking from international terminal to domestic terminal (i.e., right turn after you get outside of the international terminal building), you will see taxi queue.
2) Shuttle bus, 20 RMB ($3), to Wulinmen CAAC Ticket Office or East Railway Station Line (two most popular options). The waiting hall for the shuttle bus is at Gate 10 (you can purchase ticket at Gate 14, too) Arrival Hall, on the first floor of the terminal building. Further details, see https://www.travelchinaguide.com/cit...ation.htm#hang
3) Shuttle from Hangzhou city center to PVG, 110 RMB, 3.5 hours: a) Wulinmen Ticket Office Central Hangzhou to PVG: (5:30, 6:10, 7:00, 8:00, 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, 17:00)
b) Hangzhou Dragon Sports Center to PVG, 110 RMB, (7:00, 8:30, 10:30, 12:30, 14:30, 16:00
). Further details, see https://traveladept.com/bus-pudong-hangzhou/
4) Train from Hangzhou East station to Shanghai Hongqiao; less than 100 RMB (~1 hr); then you can take Subway Line #2 to PVG, ~10 RMB and 2 hrs; or shuttle bus (Airport Line #1), about 1 hr, 30 RMB ($4.5), every 15 - 25 minutes. The Hangzhou East ticketing windows are located on 1st Floor, EAST Area of the station. Please allow 20-30 minutes for walking to 2nd floor departure, and security check. The frequency of Hangzhou-Hongqiao trains is as good as that of subways in many US cities.
5) Getting cash at HGH The international terminal at HGH (where you arrive) only has an exchange vendor with hefty fees that is open limited hours. However, the adjacent domestic terminal has a bank ATM. To get to the entrance of the domestic terminal, exit the international terminal and keep walking right, past the taxi stand. Then enter and take the escalator to the second floor. The bank ATM will be on your left, next to the escalator.
6 Getting TWOV without issues The advice is to print out your itinerary, hotel reservation, etc., to speed up the procedure at the entry point in China. At SFO, the check-in agents were clueless, so be prepared to get there very early and fight for your boarding passes. Please read the last few pages on this thread for first-hand experiences. Good luck. There is a thread on FT for further details. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/china...hread-231.html

haha, yep, that's one of them! I also had a 1 hour change on my LAX-SFO flight on the outbound, and no notification about that either...

[EDIT] My flight to YYZ has actually changed twice, I believe...both times extending the arrival time by 5 minutes. And my flight from HNL-KOA has been moved up by 20 minutes or so also. Lots of schedule changes, but luckily nothing that causes any problems (so far).[/EDIT]

Aw, how did you get a flight to KOA? I have a 12 hour layover in HNL but that's it.

Waiting on a major schedule change so I can move my departure to a day earlier. Currently only the change fee is being applied for that. Tried with the 5 minute change to make a scene but it didn't work

The KOA/OGG flights show up a lot when you force the connection break like this: HKG-HNL / HNL-SFO / SFO-YYY. Also, there's more R space on the non-HNL to mainland flights..

Looking at my reservation on the United website, it looks like it's booked as LAX-HKG, PEK-HNL, HNL-KOA, and KOA-YYZ. I can't remember if that's what I searched for in Google Flights or not in order to get it to price out the way I wanted. I have almost 11hrs in HNL, then fly to KOA and have 6.5 hrs there before flying to DEN.

I'm guessing that KOA-DEN requires an RPU for upgrades, just like HNL-DEN would, right?

As for the notification email when a schedule changes, is there a way to sign up for that? I have 2 upcoming reservations, and each of them has had at least 1 arrival/departure time change, but they only way I know about it is when I randomly decide to login to view my reservation, and I see the info there.
they dropped sfo-den completely, gonna call and see if the can route through LAX

Your routing was [Other cites...]-HNL-SFO-DEN-YEG, and they dropped SFO-DEN, so now your routing is HNL-SFO/DEN-YEG, with no connection between SFO and DEN? Seems like you've got quite a case against them if they're making you find your own way from SFO to DEN. Or did they drop DEN-YEG also, and now your routing is HNL-SFO-YEG? I'm confused!

Yes, anything other than LAX or SFO from Hawaii eastbound requires an RPU to support it.

Just check, cause I booked into K and I'm assuming most taking advantage of this did as well, and that's pretty down the ladder for RPU's and non existent for GPU

Outbound island hopper?

I've been playing around with this trying to get the island hopper on the outbound (i.e. HNL-GUM) instead. Did anyone succeed with this?

Yes, these routes are very very hard to clear on a CPU. My secret, if you're willing to go out of your way, is to route like this: Asia - GUM / GUM-HNL / HNL-ITO / ITO-LAX / LAX-YYY. The ITO-LAX route is insanely easy to CPU on, or grab a confirmed upgrade. I don't think it's worth it, however, if you are going beyond LAX, since the extra stop for a red-eye recliner isn't that fun.

Are CPU's available for K? I checked when I booked and they weren't. I don't mind though, I'm in this for the entire UA155 experience. Don't care if it's all in Y.

Yeah, for Hawaii to either SFO or LAX those flights are CPU-eligible, as long as it's a revenue (not-award) fare class and you're a premier member. In my experience, CPU success is best (but not a sure thing) on ITO-LAX, KOA-LAX/SFO, OGG-LAX/SFO, LIH-LAX/SFO, and HNL-LAX/SFO in descending order.

Island hopper flights - usually full?

Question to those who have done the hop at least once: How's the load? Are they usually full, empty average or varies?
