Transportation options from HGH to Hangzhou city center or PVG. Please add your name and your itinerary if you are interested in meeting other fellow FTers.
1) Taxi to Hangzhou city center, about 100 RMB ($15) for the entire party, not per person, walking from international terminal to domestic terminal (i.e., right turn after you get outside of the international terminal building), you will see taxi queue.
2) Shuttle bus, 20 RMB ($3), to Wulinmen CAAC Ticket Office or East Railway Station Line (two most popular options). The waiting hall for the shuttle bus is at Gate 10 (you can purchase ticket at Gate 14, too) Arrival Hall, on the first floor of the terminal building. Further details, see https://www.travelchinaguide.com/cit...ation.htm#hang
3) Shuttle from Hangzhou city center to PVG, 110 RMB, 3.5 hours: a) Wulinmen Ticket Office Central Hangzhou to PVG: (5:30, 6:10, 7:00, 8:00, 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, 17:00)
b) Hangzhou Dragon Sports Center to PVG, 110 RMB, (7:00, 8:30, 10:30, 12:30, 14:30, 16:00
). Further details, see https://traveladept.com/bus-pudong-hangzhou/
4) Train from Hangzhou East station to Shanghai Hongqiao; less than 100 RMB (~1 hr); then you can take Subway Line #2 to PVG, ~10 RMB and 2 hrs; or shuttle bus (Airport Line #1), about 1 hr, 30 RMB ($4.5), every 15 - 25 minutes. The Hangzhou East ticketing windows are located on 1st Floor, EAST Area of the station. Please allow 20-30 minutes for walking to 2nd floor departure, and security check. The frequency of Hangzhou-Hongqiao trains is as good as that of subways in many US cities.
5) Getting cash at HGH The international terminal at HGH (where you arrive) only has an exchange vendor with hefty fees that is open limited hours. However, the adjacent domestic terminal has a bank ATM. To get to the entrance of the domestic terminal, exit the international terminal and keep walking right, past the taxi stand. Then enter and take the escalator to the second floor. The bank ATM will be on your left, next to the escalator.
6 Getting TWOV without issues The advice is to print out your itinerary, hotel reservation, etc., to speed up the procedure at the entry point in China. At SFO, the check-in agents were clueless, so be prepared to get there very early and fight for your boarding passes. Please read the last few pages on this thread for first-hand experiences. Good luck. There is a thread on FT for further details. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/china...hread-231.html

HOw much is your ticket to get back to EWR?

Well I live in Toronto (no PQD requirement) so I'm more than happy to end in YYZ! (Had I wanted to end in EWR I'm sure I could have found an itinerary through EWR on the way back and skip the last leg)

Tacking on a leg from YYZ-EWR at the beginning of the trip on the same ticket seemed to add another $500 or so. I can definitely get a separate ticket for much less or try to find something on points. (We may go down to NYC a few days earlier as vacation so the extra cost of the YYZ-NYC leg isn't really material - other than playing the game of trying to make the overall ticket as cheap as possible :-) )

You can also arrive at HGH and depart from HGH (i.e., without traveling to PVG).
Thank you for your above wiki.

checked bags?

If getting off @ SFO on the return, will checked bags be checked thru to Canada or will they need to be picked up @ SFO to clear customs and immigration before flight to Canada.
i believe yes because there isnt an in-transit area @ SFO, but not 100% sure.

You will pick up your checked bags after immigration and before the Customs checkpoint at SFO. Then re-check at the exit if you're on transit to Canada, if not, its in your possession.

For those of you in the NE states, have a Chinese visa and want to save time flying to Hangzhou, the BOS-HGH fares are as low as $462 with the TPAC 787-900 to EOS. Or nest it inside another RT or multi city to BOS and you can skip Hong Kong and Canada. Found a BOS-EWR-HKG-HGH-SFO-BOS for $482 if you want to use a TWOV and avoid Canada in your itinerary for April 2018.

Also booked a last minute mileage run originating from ORD $368. Hopefully I should be good for a visa free visit to Shanghai

I wanted to use a certificate for a SEA-HKG-HGH-YVR ticket on united.com. But the payment page says "Based on your current selections, United payment types are not available", regardless of whether I log in to my account or proceed as a guest. Does anyone know what might be causing this and how I get around it? Thanks.

Edit: Just realized that the Dragonair segment means a certificate can't be used. So, never mind.

Would you be nice enough to post a GF result with dates?

Anyone know why these fares always seem to require the leg on Cathay Dragon? (It was a similar issue with a sale last year). I can't seem to find anything in the fare rules that require it. Is it just a matter of bucket availability on Air China?

Why is that? What am I doing wrong? Or how do I view the info...I'm guessing I don't actually have to book the flight in order to see it, right? Thanks!

Hi, New to this. Was thinking to tale the EWR-HKG-CAN // PVG-SFO-YVR in early September - $323. Make a vacation of it with a 2+ week stay. From what i've read all major airlines have move to $ based mileage rewards. Is there still advantage as a mileage run? I've got credit card points of CITI Advantage of 61k And Chase BA card w point at 83K but i dont think they do any good for the UA flight. If i open a UA card and get the 50K point bonus, then also possibly the MQM's? But i already have 6 cards with points. lol
