Transportation options from HGH to Hangzhou city center or PVG. Please add your name and your itinerary if you are interested in meeting other fellow FTers.
1) Taxi to Hangzhou city center, about 100 RMB ($15) for the entire party, not per person, walking from international terminal to domestic terminal (i.e., right turn after you get outside of the international terminal building), you will see taxi queue.
2) Shuttle bus, 20 RMB ($3), to Wulinmen CAAC Ticket Office or East Railway Station Line (two most popular options). The waiting hall for the shuttle bus is at Gate 10 (you can purchase ticket at Gate 14, too) Arrival Hall, on the first floor of the terminal building. Further details, see https://www.travelchinaguide.com/cit...ation.htm#hang
3) Shuttle from Hangzhou city center to PVG, 110 RMB, 3.5 hours: a) Wulinmen Ticket Office Central Hangzhou to PVG: (5:30, 6:10, 7:00, 8:00, 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, 17:00)
b) Hangzhou Dragon Sports Center to PVG, 110 RMB, (7:00, 8:30, 10:30, 12:30, 14:30, 16:00
). Further details, see https://traveladept.com/bus-pudong-hangzhou/
4) Train from Hangzhou East station to Shanghai Hongqiao; less than 100 RMB (~1 hr); then you can take Subway Line #2 to PVG, ~10 RMB and 2 hrs; or shuttle bus (Airport Line #1), about 1 hr, 30 RMB ($4.5), every 15 - 25 minutes. The Hangzhou East ticketing windows are located on 1st Floor, EAST Area of the station. Please allow 20-30 minutes for walking to 2nd floor departure, and security check. The frequency of Hangzhou-Hongqiao trains is as good as that of subways in many US cities.
5) Getting cash at HGH The international terminal at HGH (where you arrive) only has an exchange vendor with hefty fees that is open limited hours. However, the adjacent domestic terminal has a bank ATM. To get to the entrance of the domestic terminal, exit the international terminal and keep walking right, past the taxi stand. Then enter and take the escalator to the second floor. The bank ATM will be on your left, next to the escalator.
6 Getting TWOV without issues The advice is to print out your itinerary, hotel reservation, etc., to speed up the procedure at the entry point in China. At SFO, the check-in agents were clueless, so be prepared to get there very early and fight for your boarding passes. Please read the last few pages on this thread for first-hand experiences. Good luck. There is a thread on FT for further details. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/china...hread-231.html

HGH delay/cancellation

I flew SFO-HGH-SFO a few times. There was a 15 min delay for HGH-SFO due to tight air space in Shanghai. With this said, international flights at HGH should have higher priority over domestic flights. Since HGH-SFO flight is only available on MWF each week, you may have to call UA to switch your departure city to PVG (5 flight a day) or to switch to an ANA flight if there is a delay or cancellation. I have no idea about CX's HKG-HGH flight perfirmance. According to flightstats.com, CX5626 (early AM) has 80% ontime performance; CX5622 (late evening), 45% on time, 13% late, 11% very late and 28% excessively late. If United flight arrives at HKG late, you will have a good chance to catch CX5622.
Cheers!

p.s.: I encourage every one to put your travel dates on wiki. If you do not have UA Gold status and above, someone can guess you into UA lounges or call UA elite phone line for you.

Has anybody found a routing below 1.28cpm? I could not find better than this: BOS-IAH-HNL-GUM-HKG-HGH/HGH-SFO-IAH-IAD-YUL @ $277

That's probably one of the best I've seen, from a cpm standpoint

Nice!

I was playing around with LGA-ORD-HNL-GUM-HKG-HGH on the outbound, but given how the MR game has changed, I didn't think it was worth it. Routing LGA-ORD-HKG-HGH didn't cost me a critical amount of EQM, and frankly the thought of 3 back-to-back long-hauls made me a little queasy. (I did a couple of same-day NYC-HNL turns a few years back that were murder on my body.) My routing gives me extra time in HGH for some sightseeing as well. But my hat's definitely off to all those doing the Pacific milk run!

I guess BTV yields similar (if not better) CPM, thanks to additional transits en-route to IAH (or SFO).

Lounges at HKG

While on this itinerary, which lounge(s) in HKG would you recommend to someone who has access to Star Allinace and One World lounges, as well as Priority Pass lounges?

I guess it depends the amount of time you have?

If you have all, go to all and form your own opinion.

The SilverKris and Plaza Premium are both fine in my opinion.. but I haven't been there in a couple years. I'm also easy to please: wifi, comfy chair and some food is really all I need.

If you're connecting from UA to a KA flight, do you even have access to the star alliance options? I'm thinking the UA club may work since you're arriving from a UA flight, but wouldn't the SQ/TG lounges want to see an onward *A boarding pass?

With that said, since you're departing on KA, you should have access to the Cathay lounges should you have the appropriate status or someone to guest you in...

What about lounges at HGH for departing *A pax? CA's lounge?

There is one shared lounge in the Int'l terminal of HGH. The UA flight does give access for *G. Having been there a few times, it's really nothing great.

The Air China lounges are for domestic pax.

Found one with a slightly better cpm (assuming you actually fly the last flight).

BOS-IAH-HNL-GUM-HKG-HGH/HGH-SFO-EWR-YUL-YYZ

Actual Miles: 21,562

However, if you have UA status, you'll get the 500 mile per leg minimum. That brings the credited mileage up to 21,916. At a $277 fare, that's 1.26cpm.

Alternatively, you could do: BOS-IAH-HNL-GUM-HKG-HGH/HGH-SFO-IAH-IAD-YYZ-YUL for $281. 22,176 crediting miles (21,838 actual) for 1.27 cpm.

OP is UA*G traveling SFO-HKG on UA and HKG-SGN on HX. Both in Y. So OP should not have access to UC simply based on *G. ....

    This is incomplete.

UA offers access to its customer above / beyond the *A rules.

UA offers UC access on arrival for UA's premium cabin international customers and its (UA's) *G for UA operated international itins (any cabin) -- this is above and beyond the *A rules but is clearly spelled out on UA's site -- as has been quote multiple times earlier in the thread.

UA simply has expanded access rulesfor some of its customers

Of course you need to be able to get to the UC to exercise this benefit -- that ability will vary based on the airport and you next activity. For instance, if that includes a non-*A flight and that flights is from the same terminal -- then it will work.

This is great news - I didn't know that.
Thus, I can take a shower in the future in the UA Club LHR T2B after a longhaul arrival on UA. So far, I could only access the Lufthansa Lounge, which has no shower.

i found that, but was too scared of 10 across in Y IAH-HNL! so i routed BOS-EWR-HNL instead, limiting my torture experience to HNL-GUM.

someone upthread had mentioned that SDC is impossible if there's another carrier in your itinerary. is that always the case? i'd like to leave BOS a day early and have a night in HNL. perhaps the app won't yield any SDC options, but would a phone agent be able to get me a seat as long as G is available?
