Sky Team: LAX - SGN r/t under $600 ~ 3cpm

Seeing LAX-PVG-SGN come up with the PVG-SGN legs booking in B fare class which should earn 150% MQMs on Delta. All flights are operated by China Eastern

a) dates missing: end of august thru end of november.
b) OW has cheaper (~$540)
c) make sure when you book the fares are T-B-B-T, otherwise you're f***ed if it's Q on the long legs.

Related runs (even tho old, same concepts apply

IT's actually 4.8¢ per mile. Here's why...

LAX-PVG = 6485mi, PVG-SGN = 1702mi. LAX-PVG-SGN = 8187mi. B-fare calculation will give 8187mi x 150% for a total of 12281mi.

For USD600 divided by 12281 miles, it comes to about 4.88¢ per mile. Am I missing a hidden extra segment in the routing?

Need 19k MQMS for Diamond!

Non-corporate flyer looking to hit the jackpot!

Any ideas from JFK as originating airport to do this in one shot without a RT with 20+ hr flights????

Thanks!

Almost impossible on a single one-way ticket (assuming you're on DL). Here's why especially on SkyTeam:
1. An hour in cruising altitude is about 600mph. To fly 19K miles, you will need at least 31 hours in cruising mode. Add an hour on both ends for take-off and landing.

2. Earth's circumference is a little under 25K and you need 19K miles. That's 6K miles shy of a round-the-world ticket. That's flying the opposite direction to about 6 time zones east or west from JFK, or going to the bottom tip of S.America. You'll have to fly JFK-Europe-Asia-HNL, or JFK-west coast USA-Asia-Europe. Today, no single airline circumnavigates the globe on its own network.

3. Even zig-zagging 12 time zones from NYC (literally halfway around the world) will not yield 19K miles on SkyTeam on a one-way. I've done LGA-ATL-DTW-LAX-SEA-HNL-NRT-SIN and it only gave 14K miles. My closest was 16K miles on NW when MEM was still a hub: LGA-MEM-MSP-LAX-HNL-SFO-NRT-SIN. DL now institutes their MPM (max permitted mileage) rule and has additional surcharges for every international city pair.

Here's how you can try to achieve 19K MQM on a one-way ticket:
1. JFK-LAX-SYD in J-class (200% MQM). With J-class fare, you can rest in LAX for a day or two. The longest scheduled LAX-SYD is only 15 hrs (still under your 20+ hrs of flying).

2. Traverse 3/4 of the world across 18 time zones and discard the last 6 time zones of your round-the-world ticket.

3. Use 3/4 of a circle Pacific ticket. JFK-DTW-NRT-DPS-SYD-LAX. The NRT-DPS is a codeshare with GA, the DPS-SYD is a codeshare with VA. The SYD-LAX is shorter than the other direction.

That's a return flight therefore your miles x2 I guess....Or have you calculated it that way? Then I'm sorry

The dates I searched in late August show $512 r/t so even better than OneWorld. I searched August 29 - Sept 6 (one week trip).

And no one has calculated the mileage correctly if crediting to DL (and assuming no medallion bonus)

LAX-PVG = 6,465 miles. T fare earns 30% RDM and 100% MQM.
PVG-SGN = 1,703 miles. B fares earns 100% RDM and 150% MQM.

For RDM:
(6465 * 2 * 0.3) + (1703 * 2) = 7,285 redeemable miles

For PQM:
(6465 * 2) + (1703 * 2 * 1.5) = 18,039 medallion qualification miles

So at $512 for the ticket your CPM is $0.07 based on RDM and $0.028 based on MQM.

The B-fare is only for the PVG-SGN, but the cost is for round trip. In total you will earn just over 18K MQMs (6485*2 + 1702*2*1.5). CPM comes down to around 3.3 that way.
