Happy 2017!

Please use this thread to post or to follow Economy Fares which are 'Good Deals' but where the cost per mile is more than 3-4 cents per mile, which is the usual upper limit for what is considered a true 'MR Deal'.

A few requests for posting in the thread:
  • When posting 'Good deals' fares: please post the city pairs/airport codes and pricing in the body of the post and not just in the post title as it isn't visible for those reading it on mobile devices.
  • Note that you can subscribe to this thread: go to "Thread Tools" at the top of the thread and click on "Subscribe to this thread".
  • This is not a fare request thread. Any fare requests will be deleted.
  • This is not a how to book a fare thread.

Frontier is having a sale today where they are selling tickets for 1 cent plus gov't fees and taxes. That usually works out to ~$15 one-way but I'm not sure if the taxes are being computed correctly all the time. For example, I saw a bunch of roundtrips listed for $6 on Google Flights. When I click through to Frontier it jumps to $30, but Orbitz it prices at $14.60 total (after apologizing that the fare jumped from $5.60, hah!).

Maybe somebody can find a use for these fares!

I found rates as low as 50, but nothing at prices you're mentioning. Any examples?

Thanks. This was helpful.

I was looking for a one way from Chicago, and the $50 lowest rate they had was well below others, so I started going through the booking process. It didn't take long before I realized/remembered why I have never travelled with the likes of Spirit and Frontier. By the time you add on the minimums you need, they price similar or higher than the majors (at least for me since I have status with both *A and OW so I don't have to pay for bags, seats, etc.). I ended up booking American for the same route for 99.

You have a point, as most LCC tend to be more A LA CARTE, do you want a seat with your ticket???? Still, it you plan it right, it can certainly save you some money. No baggage, and just put it under the seat, not picky on seat selection helps out and save you, granted if it works for you. Another downside might be not offering TSA PreCheck. But to me, the biggest downside will be with irrops, as they only offer one daily service to their destination from my home airport, which means that I could potentially be stuck at least 24hrs trying to get back.

Amazing fares! And only $443 during the same period from NYC. It's a shame the positioning flight would make this not such a good deal for me at the end.

Reminds me of a $238 MIA- RIO AA had a few years ago, which made for a cheap visit to Corcovado!

I agree. I had actually acquiesced to no assigned seat, etc., until I got to the prompts to pay for bags. While I would be carrying only a smaller (16x13) carry-on, according to their chart, I would have had to pay $30 extra for that. Not sure how stringent they are with respect to their carry-on policy, but at the end, the $99 AA fare was a no-brainer.

I frequently travel to Latin America and northern South America, and Spirit often offers very low fares (half or less the next best fare), and because of that I started the booking process with them at least half a dozen times, only to give up half or three quarters of the way through because of the aggravating extras, and all the negative messages about 'how bad it would be if you didn't buy this or pay for that'.

Anyway, this thread is probably not the place for these rants, so I will stop!
