HNL overnight + Monday/Wednesday HNL departure only (HNL-GUM only on 135, and GUM-PVG only on 247, note +1 day)

So you probably had to start from EWR on Sunday or Tuesday.

Do you need a visa for China? Does GUM count as a 3rd country? or is it counted as USA?

GUM does NOT count as a 3rd country. Tried it once on a SDC; was denied boarding.

Showed up on Secret Flying. Maybe that has something to do with it.

But to be sure, make sure you are choosing correct dates - Island hopper is NOT daily service @:-)

Thank you, OP!!

I got so intrigued with this I researched the various stops a bit. I'd been looking at Guam for a long time as a possible destination. This is much more fun and interesting.

To share my research:

GUM - Guam International
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antoni...tional_Airport

TKK - Chuuk International on Weno Island
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuuk_...tional_Airport

PNI - Pohnpei International on Pohnpei Island
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pohnpe...tional_Airport

KSA - Kosrae International located on an artificial island
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kosrae...tional_Airport

KWA - Bocholz Army Airfield on Kwajalein Island
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bucholz_Army_Airfield

MAJ - Marshall Islands International
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marsha...tional_Airport

And then I mapped it on www.rome2rio.com. A line generally headed toward Honolulu. Definitely the makings of a fine trip.

So basically you went to wikipedia and searched each of the destinations

Haha just winding you up. I've been to Micronesia, it's a fascinating place, and brilliant if you are into SCUBA.

Priceline seems to be the only option for finding this fare now.

What do we live for, if it is not to make life less difficult to each other?

Finding and booking an island hopper run!

I often read these island hopper mileage run threads with envy; and not just for the miles, but also and more importantly for the opportunity to see some of the islands that one actually hops!

I have taken a few shots at building an itinerary, and every time the price has been a few thousands.

So is there a trick to finding and booking an island hopper deal, particularly if I want long layovers on some of the islands, or is it a matter of playing with dates and routes until you find one you like (price wise)? In the latter case, do specific origins and destinations work best?

Thanks.

There's not really any trick, you just need to be very precise with the dates that have same fare-class availbility, keeping in mind you will be crossing the dateline somewhere along the way. You won't be able to create any stopovers without dramatically increasing the fare (you may be able to fit <24hours in GUM for the same price)

Also, the PVG flight only operations 2x a week, so be mindful of this too.
I've had the best luck manually feeding the flights via United and selecting the options that way.
