AA ORD -> KUL through NRT on JAL with AA flight numbers are coming in at 850 dollars on thursday departures...

I just booked thanksgiving 11/26 return 11/29 (1 night in tokyo to get some ramen and 1 full day in KL to do some exporing

itinerary ->
11/26
AA154 ORD -> NRT
AA8415 (JL)NRT -> KUL

11/29
AA8416 (JL) KUL -> NRT
AA8405 (JL) NRT -> ORD

for 846.40 for 19220 miles... since these are all AA flight numbers I get full mileage... so works out to be about 4.4cpm

Usually when I do KUL it routes via LHR. Did you do multiple city search?

I used google flights with a filter for American airline only. It restricted to aa flight numbers I believe that's probably why it routed nrt. Your layover in Japan is actually a lot shorter if you do the jal outbound from ord as well. You'd get more time in Kul and hotels there are so much cheaper. I'm getting ritz Carlton for 200 bucks a night right now. If it wasn't for my love of ramen i would've gone straight to Kul with the jal routing.

LHR-KUL-LHR on BA in WT would be pretty brutal though I can see the extra miles gained.
