I posted something similar four days ago for JL at another site. Even using the above dates from the OP, it was far cheaper to book through selloffvacations.com
Depart YVR on Jan 21st and return from HKG on Jan 27th for $661 CAD.
For the BR flights departing Jan 12th and returning Jan 18th, I can get it cheaper at $690 CAD by using expedia.ca.

I don't remember AC having a $400 USD YVR-HKG sale. The cheapest "regular" price YVR-HKG is like $800, it's often sadly $1000CAD. Much cheaper usually is PEK/PVG.
All that being said I got one of the mistakes from ANA $450 CAD YVR-HKG so I'm still pretty happy with that

Yea it's a UA/ANA combo...except, lol, it's ANA metal/flight numbers on the outbound (so I could pick seats) on the return it's ANA metal but UA codeshares, meaning I can't seem to pick seats on either's website or via call centers the best they could do was try to manually force it or something but at that price I can suck it up and wait until T-24.
