I see these European cities in the $400s and $500s, most on kayak, goog flights or skyscanner:
FCO, TRN, MXP, ZRH, AMS, CPH, ARN, CDG
And these American ones in the $400s and $500s:
DTW, SLC, MSP
Examples:
Nov. 15-23 TRN-GRU, $479
Aug. 19-26, SLC-GRU $444 (skyscanner)
Looks good til Feb '16.

No Visa For Brazil Transit
Having done it, you don't need a visa if you stay in the international gate/transit area, presumably on a MR.

Nope
They aren't supposed to. When checking in at the counter, they will ask for your visa. If you do online checkin, then they will page you at the gate before boarding begins usually to verify that you have it. At least that's what protocol they are supposed to follow.
