The post talks about another boarding area blog. So, boarding area == a group of bloggers who loop between each other as sources of inspiration.
That link has nothing to do with the routing. Trust me it isn't like one can search on google or orbitz or even ita matrix and come up with that routing in 10 minutes.

Kind of a MR. I only have this week available January so I grabbed this to line up with another trip on the end. If my SWU's don't clear I will be in trouble. Seat maps look open for J those days but who knows. I have never been to Hong Kong and have been wanting to go - I will enjoy three days there - thanks OP! Got it for $979 - could have been less but need to fly in this timeframe. Also, flying out of IAD on the last leg due to cheaper hotels in the area midweek.
Anyhow, I was curious about the 1200 mile difference when flying the same flight number. I don't doubt it but I am wondering where it is referenced on AA - the AAdvantage T&C I guess? The upside is the priority given to through passengers I guess - I read this on the AA SWU thread. Would it work if I just standby for the earlier (outbound) and later (inbound) flights? I figure it should clear easily if I wanted to do so. And it is still widely available in January when I was checking.

Depends on the agent....either on phone or at gate. I have batted about 30%. Generally, I have found them to be rather inflexible on this.

30% sounds about right for me as well. Seems to help a lot if you have a reason. (e.g. My booked flight appears late/ connecting flight is late, possible irreg ops)

Hey correct me if I'm wrong, but q class earns 50% of the miles flown? If so I assume this is only good for platinum and executive platinum in combination with the 100% bonus miles?

I made this run just this past weekend. Boy was it fun!
AA138 on 11/23 was full of mileage runners. HKG is a definite favorite destination for MR'ers. When I arrived at DFW from HKG, the customs officer asked "Mileage Run?" instead of "Business or Pleasure?"
