Aa: Lax-dfw-hkg $780.50 = 4.2 cpm

Searching for good fare for HKG and found the following, with both Transpacs on 77Ws and 18,660 miles:

Priced out on "schedule" picking the dep times from LAX and from HKG looking for all AA metal and Flt.137 & Flt. 138. Booked following:

Flt. 2420 LAX dep. 6:30AM arr. DFW 11:35am : 737-800
Flt. 137 DFW dep.12:15PM arr. HKG 6:05pm (next day) : 77W
Flt. 138 HKG dep. 1:30 PM arr: DFW 4:00pm : 77W
Flt. 2459 DFW Dep. 5:40pm arr: LAX 6:55pm : 737-800

When I first found it yesterday, it was pricing on AA over $k, but found it on Priceline and on Orbitz for $780.50. Today, it is priced on AA at $780.50. Have evips to burn, so booked it. C not available yet, but put alert on EP. There appears to be good likelihood based on the current load on EP. Time will tell.

I looked to see if there were any other posts and search turned up nothing, so hope this isn't a duplicate. (Saw SJC to HKG and SEA to HKG with decent fares and a bit more mileage, but I'm based at LAX). Apologies if a duplicate

This is a duplicate of a recent post:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/milea...721-rt-aa.html
But do not despair....fare prices come and go, so it is always nice (and appreciated) for people to post their current pricing finds. Mods can decide to merge if needed....

Just in the interest of keeping things straight, -- presumably you mean $.042 per mile or 4.2 cpm, rather than $0.42 cpm.

Sample dates and layover time in HKG? I tried getting this to price before and couldn't make it work. Might be worth the drive from SAN if I can make it fit.

SAN might have a similar fare.

I booked a 10 day trip in late Oct/early Nov at the $780. Finally able to get a really good use out of the $500 VDB I got earlier this year. Will be my first MR, although I am staying awhile. Anyone able to offer insight on how to navigate China's 72 hour Visa exemption policy? It's my understanding I wouldn't be able to fly from HKG to the mainland and then back again to HKG? Is this true?

Seems like the flight will be brutal, but excited about the deal!

Think you're understanding is correct.

Something that should work (if you've miles for awards or can find a reasonably priced ticket) would be:

HKG - PEK or PVG (stay up to 3 days)
PEK or PVG - Japan (for 0 - ? days), then
Japan - HKG

The 3 day, no-visa stay is for transits to another country, not a simple round trip to China. That's why the Japan leg (or some other country) is in there. May be simpler to get a China visa...

If you check the other thread that was mentioned you will see that it works from SAN.

Actually scratch that, its gone from SAN.

Edit again: similar price from SNA which is better as it is a shorter drive an you can park at a nearby hotel and they shuttle you to the airport.

These prices are $60 more than last week though.

If you want to a really brutal set of flights, book LAX-DFW-HKG and then nest in a HKG-DFW-EZE/GRU/IGU & back itinerary before the return HKG-DFW-LAX. ~45k miles and min of 2 HKG overnights (maybe 1 in IGU as well)but really tough on you if you can't clear in to J.

Does AA allow nesting of itineraries?

As long as it's not to get around any fare restrictions, sure.

When I checked a couple weeks ago it was about $1100 to do HKG-IGU (required routing via GIG/JFK on a 777) and about $1200 for HKG-GRU (keep you on 77W for all long flights).

The discussion thread I posted on it is at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/milea...-5-73-cpm.html

Can the other countries both be Chinese SARs? Would HKG-<mainland China>->MFM (or the reverse) satisfy the transit requirement? If so that might be a better deal as you could close the loop via ferry.
