Ua: IAH-MNL-IAH $878 4.6 cpm 19.1 eqm

I guess this is a slight refinement of fares posted in last 3 months or so at the theflightdeal.com.

IAH-HNL-GUM-MNL-(ROR)-GUM-NRT-IAH, all UA metal. All K-fare. 4/6 segments are RPUable. 6.5 hrs layover at GUM. IAH-HNL has R>0 for multiple dates in Oct.

Ex dates: 10/12 ex IAH, 10/14 ex MNL.

Mods - feel free to move this to Good Deals thread. I'm not sure what standards apply to IAH as far as acceptable cpm for UA MR goes.

I think that < 5 CPM for a hub airline/city is within MR range for sure

Ua: IAH-MNL-IAH 4.6 cpm 19.1 eqm

Definitely, I'd argue <6 cpm from a fortress hub like IAH is MR worthy. <5 cpm is good in pretty much all situations. Fare works with the island hopper, 5.1 cpm though. OP, what is the price for the 4.6 cpm? Book departing IAH on January 29th to connect to UA 154 HNL-GUM via the South Pacific on January 30th, to join some of your fellow FTers! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/commu...th-2015-a.html

Looking at a few test bookings, I'm getting some extremely tight turnaround times in Manila (60-75 minutes). What is the Visa / Immigration situation for a US passport holder in the Philippines? Would I need to clear immigration and customs coming and going, or could I just stay airside?

I was kind of wanting to join the island hoppy ness but now with this, I'm even more tempted since my vacation days reset on 1/1. I priced out a fare IAH-MNL for $1046 ai for 5.5 cpm. I might actually make Silver next year if i do this. lol.

It will be a lot better than flying it alone . I'll be toasting my last few days as a 1K .

Well, I just put an itinerary on farelock, arriving into HNL on UA 1224 mid afternoon the 29th. I have the return flight on Feb 6. I figured if I was flying all the way there, might as well take an extra couple days and maybe check out another city or two! Now I have to decide if I want to do this. I mean, I do, its just the committing to it that's hard.

You can get it <4˘ per mile if you don't mind a few lengthy ground times, although the savings might be rendered meaningless by one's expenditures at the transit points:

UA 803 K 16OCT IADNRT 12:20 15:25+1

PDX-MNL plus the island hopper

I just found this thread after posting in the island-hopper to HKG run. I had coincidentally been looking at cheap flights to anywhere in SE Asia to meet up with my buddy who teaches in HKG. It is a 3-day school holiday HKG and we plan to meet up in MNL to drink beer and not eat any balut.

My fare was much higher due to me being on the west coast and having weekend dates. However, I have been obsessed with the island-hopper since first seeing it here. I got the fare as low as $960 outbound 10/7/14 and returning on 10/12/14. I figure I will make up the difference as MNL is far cheaper than HKG.

17,175 miles
$1106
6.4cpm (mediocre for my first attempt at an MR but I get the island hopper)

Thanks to OP for sharing and I'd be all over it if I was still in the CO orbit, but they blew a chance at that by copying DL's negative changes for 2015 (though I s'pose this gets in just before UA's effective date).

Have flown the island hopper several times. Used to be a lot more fun, as you could just walk around the airport or as far out as you could get during stops like MAJ and PNI. Maybe look at Sokeh's Rock and buy a Coke II (the infamous "new" Coke) in PNI.

Post 9/11 they really made that miserable, putting transit passengers in a 1-room holding pen at PNI. Was a much worse experience overall. Hopefully they've eased up on that. I actually visited PNI on a MNL-PNI(STOP)-MAJ (stop)-MNL award once on the old CO because of favorable impressions from the earlier trip, but those who got the holding-pen experience are unlikely to view the place as favorably.

Obviously u want a window seat and maybe you'll get to fly with some locals with the fragrant headgear (though some can be of-size). Truly an interesting route.

Isn't this the non-stop, not the island hopper? Or am I looking at the wrong flight?

You are correct, that is the nonstop flight from HNL-GUM. The island hopper is UA 154, which leaves HNL just after 7AM.
