There is a 24 hours lounge, and they don't mind you moving around the furniture to make napping/sleeping convenient. Hot food until after midnight, and then hot food for breakfast around 5am. Airport also has free movie theater, and lots of places to lounge just in the public areas.

Yes it is illegal to do. Yes, they will cancel your itinerary if you miss a segment. You'd need to be on the DTW-IAH flight.
Now, you could always hop off in IAH on the return if you don't check bags... but be aware that in the case of IRROPS, they will try to get you ultimately to DTW, so if NRT-IAH goes bad, they may re-route you NRT-XXX-DTW to get you to DTW since that's your ticket.

For folks who have Priority Pass, there is a nice 24-hour lounge in Terminal 3 called Dnata. Open all night, food until pretty late and again with breakfast service at 4:30, snacks overnight, showers available, good wifi. I spent an overnight here after the United arrival a few weeks ago, and it was very pleasant.

You might want to check out the ibis Singapore on Bencoolen. I stayed there a few years ago, and thought it was a good balance of price and location; you can walk to several destinations in about 10 minutes, including a major MRT station, and advanced purchase rates can be had for about $100 (US) per night.

Speaking of NRT-SIN, there are two options:
UA803 on B777 where I will get E+
UA codeshare on NH (ANA) on B787 where I will probably be stuck in a less than optimal seat
How is ANA? Is the 787/ANA combination worth enduring standard economy seat for 7 hours? Or am I better off in E+ with United?

I'm personally jaded about my UA experience after the merger, so I'm not hesitant about flying NH. I haven't had any negative experience flying NH, but maybe that's just because UA has set the bar so low. I'd trade E+ for better food, better service, just my $0.02.

Gotta go too
Thanks for the heads up on this bargain. I leave on June 30 for a two night stay in Singapore. Itinerary: ATL-DEN-NRT-SIN-NRT-IAH-ATL. I paid $765.10.
