not quite as good from SMF this time around with only G fares available, no Ns.

$278 during the week, with scattered lower prices, a little lower if you are willing to overnight in NYC ex-SMF. can double connect (eg, LAX-IAH or LAX-ORD) for a commensurate increase in $$ and miles.

AA also in the game with lower prices on certain dates. i found $254 for a one night stay on AA in early May.

The problem with the reverse is the time zone difference. We are three hours ahead in NYC plus the flying time. If you depart at 6:31 AM, the time in NYC is already 9:31 AM. Here is a flight that I found:

SJC-JFK is also available with no hotel stay needed for $248 @4.5 cpm going through LAX on Jan22.
I prefer SJC to SFO since it is less crowded.
I might take this flight myself.

Thanks Vic, SJC is closer to me and also the preferred airport as well. Doesn't look like this route is available anymore, nothing came up just now. I couldn't find on UA any outbounds with same day return for Jan 22.

I would risk it. IAH is a good enough hub that you can get a good reroute for extra PQM. And if they change to less than 30 (I assume that is IAH's MSC) then you can reroute in advance.
