Can add a connection through MIA on return to get <4.0cpm.

Cizake, ex. 10/23-10/29

AA.com also shows a routing through MIA LAX outbound fwiw for $663.

Wish those 10% off coupons were still floating around. Would make this price even cheaper.

Excellent fare. Thank you.
Trying to find routing via Tokyo or Hong Kong on the way back. That way you can avoid getting a visa.

I thought you can have a 72 hour non-visa in Shanghai and Beijing now

Only if you're NOT flying back to the same country. So US->PRC->US won't qualify for 72 TWOV (transit without visa).

US->PRC->Japan->US does qualify, for example.

Exactly. Beijing, Shanghai and a few other cities are in the program. But you have to continue your journey to a 3rd country. Hong Kong/Macao also qualify as a 3rd country, btw.

I didn't realize there was this option. Excellent information to have - thank you.

Best thing to do is pair with an Avios booking to HKG or TYO, unless you can find a cheap paid fare to either place. You can have 72hrs on either side.

It is a 5 day minimum stay.

P.s. Certain days you can route out of BWI via MIA, LAX and return LAX, MCO, JFK, to squeeze the miles.
