Why would they attack their own hub

C'mon UA, don't take this lying down! LAX-ATL/DTW (via EWR) would be a great slap back

@EmailKid

I am new to this .. did 1 MR CLE-ATL-SEA-ATL-CLE 03/02 same day turn. I have been looking for similar MR from DTW.

Are you saying there wont be good MR from hub city?

EmailKid is referring to the fact that these fares are targeted towards their competition's hubs (in this case, IAH is United)... DL would have no reason to cut fares on their own hub.

Check the Sticky/FAQ at the top of the thread, or do a search on building a MR...

But to find a cheap fare, basically, there are 2 approaches here in MR Deals:
1) Be proactive and spend time daily (or set up alerts) to do a search with your specific parameters (i.e. DL from DTW)
2) Wait to see if someone else found anything good that closely matches your requirements

Majority of readers on MR Deals forum wait to see if there's anything good that comes up from fellow members. Speaking as a collective, there's a better chance one of us, in the process of searching for an airfare, will find something. But that is a reactive process... and sometimes not suitable if you have a specific need.

BTW, welcome to FT!

Also, another good primer is the sticky found here in the MR Discussion subforum:

Lotsa luck

As a former Hub Captive at IAH I can tell you that you will be hard pressed to find good MR material from DL's hub.

IMHO your best bet would be to DRIVE to a nearby airport and connect from there so you won't have to pay the Hub Penalty, er, Nonstop Premium

Or watch for partner flights with connections.

The only true MR I ever did from IAH was NW flight to SIN back when CO and NW were close partners and KL flight to MAD.

DTW-PDX on DL is currently available from $243 all-in. One day stay required however (can take the after midnight red-eye to MSP to get around it however).

This works both ways, btw.

I just wish I could get a later departure, or a Sat. departure to avoid taking a day off of work. Oh well. I've been deprived of travel so far this year...I'm thirsty for it!

I'm a Delta flyer stuck in IAH this year. This will provide some welcome padding to my mileage balance to keep me in the status for when I move back to DTW late this year.

Edit:
In for 2. May 3-4: IAH-MSP-SJC-ATL-IAH-MSP-SJC-ATL-IAH

Booked by getting IAH to SJC leaving the 3rd, returning the 4th, and sandwiched SJC - IAH the 3rd-4th as well.

Two redeyes in two days...I hope I get at least a couple upgrades!

IAH will never be the target of any competitive fares, let alone anything resembling a MR. None of the other carriers have the cojones to challenge the mighty UA monopoly.
