Initially JetBlue planned this promotion to go until 7/20. they ended it early...
Dear hot New Yorkers,
Our #HotSeatsNYC promotion turned out to be an offer that was simply too hot to handle, and unfortunately, we’ve had to end it early – our systems just weren’t able to manage the volume of New Yorkers looking to beat the heat. While we sold thousands of seats during the promo, we know there were many of you who weren’t able to take advantage of the offer.
To prove we’re not full of hot air and to make sure everyone lands a hot deal, we’re offering 25% off fall flights from New York’s JFK/LGA/EWR airports. Just book by 7/19 at 4 p.m. EDT for travel 9/3 – 10/31/13 using promo code 2HOT2HANDLE. The promo code is good for all days and all domestic flights (including Puerto Rico), as long as there’s an available seat. Supplies AREN’T limited, so feel free to use the code more than once.

Agree, but I have to say that they've done a good job with their course correction, and in a hot tick, so to speak.
As I wanted to say about this one, come on Boston! Alas...
But when it didn't spread to Boston, it had me for the first time actually investigating the best way to get from Boston to JFK (including one of the cheapo buses).

UA/NZ (one-way): Many cities-AKL, as cheap as $369 (5.27cpm)
If you have the miles to get back, this is a steal.
One-way from LAX or SFO to Auckland running $339
Available from other cities for not much more, best routing I found was EWR-IAH-SFO-AKL for $488.
Departures in late August.

The NZ segments of the itineraries I found are on K fares, but only certain NZ fares earn miles on UA.

united.com. Again, beware, if earning in MP K, or the G fares I'm seeing, do NOT earn MP miles.

LAX/SFO-AKL one-ways for $362 in August
Too bad about no mileage accrual... as this would be a good trip even at regular mileage rates. As mentioned, K class on NZ, which all these fares are, does not accrue any mileage on either UA-MP or US-DM. So you're doing the flight just for the destination! A good one-way for that purpose...

Couple things on the fare.
First, it appears from EF that it can be booked as a round-trip (EF is showing a 438 RT K fare for SFO-AKL). Second, the fare allows for rouing via HNL with the SFO/LAX-HNL legs on UA, so you could still rack up a bunch of miles.
