leaving aside the uncertain geopolitical climate in the area, (2)--or perhaps because of it--there are some interesting fares in the next month or so to Amman for west coast AA fliers looking to top off EQMs, especially those looking to use eVIP/SWUs.

for example: there are round trip fares from SFO to AMM for <$1000. American metal as far as London, then a BA flight number onward (e.g., SFO-LAX-LHR-AMM-LHR-JFK-SFO). Some availability in early December (which would also qualify for the ELTA2 2X EQM), $972 out of SFO for total of 28k EQMs (16 + 12k ELTA2 2X EQM on American metal = 28k), 3.43 cpEQM. Also availability early next year for a less interesting 5.92 cpm run against the base 16k miles. Do note $28US entry visa (available upon arrival) for US citizens. Also, I don't see same day turns (so not a true mileage run).

Note that similar fares are available out of other west coast cities, e.g., LAX, SEA, and to Cairo (yes, a much more, shall we say, dynamic security situation) as well. I even saw a HNL-AMM fare (without overnight connections) fare for $1288, 20.6k base EQM + 16 ELTA2 EQM = 36k EQM/3.51cpm.

At this time, Jordan's not for everyone, and there are slightly cheaper ways of getting EQMs. but it's an interesting place to visit, and especially from the west coast in December, this is a lot of EQMs for under $1k about 4 days total time.

Jordan and Israel are still at peace with each other, so one shouldn't be too worried about the security situation there. There are even direct flights from TLV to AMM.

That's not to say that an errant rocket doesn't happen, but the Jordanian border is not exactly near where any of the exchanges are happening and Gaza, when firing rockets, isn't firing them in a direction that might hit Jordan.

I'd be tempted to take this route to get to TLV, personally. Not sure how that would work out price-wise.

It was cheaper last year 2011 (for travel in 2012 Jan-May) for like... under $800 from west coast
