routing: LAX-MUC-DME-MUC-LAX for 14,398 elite qualifying miles on Lufthansa or credit to a Star Alliance partner like United
sample dates: depart 11/1 , return on 11/11
bookable on orbitz and other online travel agents
this is a great fare if you need more miles to re-qualify for status as the months are dwindling down...
< 24 hour turnarounds might be available, haven't checked yet.. other possible routings might yield more miles
You can do multi city in orbitz and force < 24 hr layovers in Munich or any other European city that falls under the fare rules

Wirelessly posted (BB Curve: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.4; en-us; T-Mobile G2 Build/GRJ22) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)
Thank you for the condolences... it was one of the more painful and expensive travel documentations I've had to go through (particularly if your travel plans change and have to reapply and pay the fee again).

No UA miles for LH operated flight, but should be OK for AC operated flight.
