My thoughts exactly. When they first announced the route, it was just a little above $500. It's only ~$550 reverse IST-EWR.

I actually booked this last month, EWR-IST W fare for ~$750a/i. Partially because I needed to get to Europe and there were tons of R/RN available to apply my GPU.

The cheaper fare is due to them not adding the fuel surcharge as part of the tax . When you look at the fare details - the additional taxes are inclusive of all other things listed except the FC

Well I bit from DCA for $631 for a long week in early October. I've wanted to visit IST and this will help me get closer to 1K this year. I have 24 hours to change my mind..

FWIW, your ZRH-JFK flight will be on LX.

ticket class

Just to clarify, my booking class is L on that $638 r/t fare EWR-IST-EWR.

Also to clarify, they broke it down and fuel surcharge was in the ticket: $252.

Insane how the base r/t fare is only $324. They must be desperate.

well that doesn't suck. Unless the L booking class translated into LX doesn't earn, lol.

Precisely, LX L fare earns nothing when crediting to UA, but since it is UA coded, it might map to a different fare code for the LX segment.

Is it me or does UA have the times for the IST-EWR leg incorrect? Depart IST at 1:55 PM and arrive EWR at 6:02 PM. My itinerary shows a flight time of 10 hours and 7 minutes (which I believe should be 11 hours and 7 minutes). That's an awfully fast flight time when the DL 763 appears to take 11-12 hours.
