UA: LAX-DME (via JFK and IAD) $636 ai, NYC-DME (via IAD) $479 ai. 4c per EQM.

Was looking at fares today on farecompare and stumbled upon these two gems. Both are not tricked yet, so if anyone can dump YQ might be even better.

LAX-JFK-IAD-DME-IAD-JFK-LAX is legal on the LAX fare, for a p.s. transcon
NYC is a one-stop routing, but a very good fare.

Nice fare, the p.s. routing makes it more attractive ^. Thanks for posting JBLUA320! FWIW I checked prices from SFO too and they're much higher at $883 .

A gentle reminder: a tourist visa is required for most nationalities visiting Russia (yes, you probably already know this).

Welcome to FT!

Unfortunately international airfare are usually not reversible (LAX-DME is not priced the same as DME-LAX).

On top of that, you are looking at a completely different airfare so this will not work for you.

Good luck on your search for a cheap fare.

Are you able to price it out? The lowest on ITA shows $629 via IAD. If you are only looking on Farecompare, it's likely that it hasn't calculated the YQ out properly.

I did this same run a few years ago with an immediate turn in DME. Although I didn't have any problem, a few people were not permitted to board the outboard flight when they couldn't show a Russian transit visa. Having a return boarding pass printed before you board the outbound flight will help argue that the visa is unnecessary but still didn't guarantee success.

This was the thread where people discussed their successes and failures making this run:

Visas have always been required to enter Russia. I would not risk being held by security at Domodedovo (DME). Been there, done that, don't chance it.

Both DL and Aeroflot are cheaper on the NYC-SVO route for the nonstop, and about the same per EQM. (with a negligible difference in # of miles). Good for Skyteam folks.

Hmm? Quite sure the poster is stating the cheap fare is the result of the recent bombing rather than referring to the visa requirement.

Transit Visa

Can you get a Transit Visa on arrival in Moscow or do you have to apply in advance? Any idea of cost?

Same question here - i am having difficulties putting this one together. Obviously YQ dump would make it even more interesting...

SU flight on U fare will give only 25% of miles for SU and DL FFers.

NYC SU MOW 99.50UPR SU NYC 99.50UPR NUC 199.00 END ROE 1.00 XT 5.50YC 7.00XY 5.00XA 32.60US 2.50AY 163.80YQ 8.20YR 4.50XF JFK4.50

DL on T fare will give 100% SMs but fo ~20$ more:
NYC DL MOW Q93.00 M 99.50TLSL7 DL NYC Q93.00 M 99.50TLSL7 NUC 385.00 END ROE 1.00 XT 5.50YC 7.00XY 5.00XA 32.60US 2.50AY 19.00RI 6.74UH 4.50XF JFK4.50

Anyway even DL NYC-SVO would be almost $0.05 per mile.

I'm playing with ITA and can't make this come up-- using the routing in the original post, as well as just saying LAX-DME on UA and CO (and letting ITA sort out the routing)... the best I can find is $883 at the end of August and the beginning of May. Anyone else finding the OP's $636? If so would love to know your dates/exact routing. Thx.
