AT&T adding CTA subway service
AT&T will be adding cell service in the CTA subways, joining Verizon, US Cellular, and Cricket.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/l...,0,33216.story Now if only T-mobile would jump on the bandwagon... |
I would prefer it if they all jumped off the bandwagon.

I know what you mean...seems more and more people are shouting into their cell phones these days on the train. I don't think the train is an appropriate place to try to have a conversation (aside from the rudeness, it's just too much background noise IMO). I would use it for text messaging, web, and facebook more than anything else.
|
I thought it was just US Cellular. That would explain why I have been able to send text messages recently with my Verizon phone. In the past, the messages wouldn't go until the train would come out of the hole in the ground. At any rate, it is very annoying. The train is loud enough, expecially in the subway, but when you also have to listen to someone shout on the phone in order to hear themselves, it is particularly obnoxious. I'm hoping CTA is getting some decent money out of it, at least.

T-Mobile's signal tends to be pretty awful above ground. Perhaps they'll fix that first ;)

I was speaking about the coverage I get on my T-Mobile cell phone when in Chicago ;)
I wouldn't expect the signal to be strong here - they don't have a network in Ireland :p |
Give AT&T a try and you'll run screaming back to T-mobile. :)

I've been thinking about iPhones for my wife and me. How is its service in Chicagoland?
We have US Cellular now, but lately I have been failing to receive calls and people have to leave voice messages that don't show up until 6 hours later. |
I have an AT&T phone for work and a Blackberry of my own on T-mobile.
AT&T is miserable. My 3G work phone constantly loses the 3G signal and drops down to EDGE. I frequently don't get voicemail notifications or text messages until a few hours after the fact. I'd say to go with Verizon, Sprint, or T-mobile in Chicago. |
God will punish them for doing this evil thing.
Cell phones (used in public) are probably the most odious invention of recent times. Used to be when you saw someone walking down the street yelling into the air you knew they were nuts. Now, they think they are cool. |
I use my Blackberry (Verizon) on the subway but for data only.
In particular, it's helpful to be able to access the CTA bus tracker system. |
I wish they would do away with this. I hate people talking loud about stuff on the El
|
I'm in the west suburbs and I get excellent coverage with AT&T all around here. 5 bars & 3G most everywhere. Don't go into the city that often, but when I have the coverage has been great there too.
