Long layover in Detroit - what to do?

I've got an 8-hour daytime layover in Detroit one Saturday next month. I've seen the airport plenty in the past, but never gone "landside" in Michigan at all. Any suggestions?

Ann Arbor/UMich?

How feasible would it be, in your opinion, to duck out to Ann Arbor? I've got friends who work for the university there; maybe I could surprise them.

It's a relatively short drive-around 30 minutes. Should give you more than enough time to get there, enjoy yourself, and get back without concern.

If you're there for lunch, I might recommend Zingerman's Deli. It's excellent.

yup, ann arbor would also be pretty easy. i would reccomend renting a car though, rather then getting a cab.
