Downtown Parking
Will be staying at the Wyndham Chicago this weekend and don't want to pay $50 for valet parking.
Where can I find a public garage for a better rate? I know that there are many of them around. Anyone have any specific recommendations/favorites? Thanks!:) |
1) Indoor/Outdoor? In/Out privileges?
2) Call the concierge and ask. |
I seem to recall an article in TIMEOUT magazine recently touting the underground garage with entrances just north of the Art Institute on Michigan Ave., but I can't swear to it.

Attached is a link to the garages you mention.
http://www.millenniumgarages.com/Source/Home.aspx These are bit further from the wydham and in the cold might not be a pleasant walk. There is also a giant self park next to Northwestern Memorial Hospital that might be more like $35 per day, but will be convienient to your hotel. Your hotel is in a great location, but there is no cheap parking nearby. Navy pier parking would save you a bit more but is also a bit of a walk. http://www.navypier.com/events/event.../parking2.html Good luck and enjoy your visit. |
Thanks guys!
Used Standard's East Ontario Lot for $33.00 Not bad and only about 2 blocks from the Wyndham. |
For the future readers of this thread.... Union Station has a surprisingly acceptable parking lot for those who are not going to use their car while in the city. It should be about $21 for 24 hours (it's been a while since I parked there because my office moved). It is mostly indoor, with an uncovered roof level.
It is very close to the Interstate - get off 90/94/290 at Congress Parkway and then take the Canal street exit, make a U-Turn at the signal to go north 2 blocks. And because it's across the street from the station, there are lots of CTA buses going to North Michigan Avenue (151) and to all the other major hotel areas. |

There are plenty of places in Chicago where you can park long term for free on the street. If you are staying for a week, perhaps you should consider parking on, say, the near Northwest Side, and taking CTA or cab to where you need to be.
I like to park near the CTA stop at North and Clybourn when heading into the Loop. |

Oh, and watch out for this one: http://theexpiredmeter.com/?p=6068 |
You can find parking around North/Clybourn that is not zoned - but it is a little more difficult to find non-metered parking. You just need to be alert to both (zoning restrictions and metered parking).
