Stops on the Blue Line close to bar/restaurant?
Hey all!
Will be spending time in Chicago, staying out near ORD near Cumberland station. We will be getting into the city quite often but I wonder if one of the stops in between is in a neighborhood that would have decent place to grab a burger and a beer in the later evening? We live in a city so are comfortable making our way through unfamiliar neighborhoods. Thanks! |
You have multiple options. The Jefferson Park stop puts you near Gale Street Inn, an old school bar and restaurant. If you're looking for a younger crowd, some of the stops further SE should suffice, including Damen.
|
Jeff Park also has several 24-hour diners, fwiw. For yuppies and hipsters (like Uptown or Lyn-Lake, sorta), try Damen, Logan Square, Division, Western, and Chicago, in that order.
Just found that the city tourism office has a guide to the Damen area: http://www.summerinchicago.com/wickerPark/index.html |
If you want to venture into the city - take the Blue line to Jackson, and walk 3-4 blocks down Dearborn to Hackney's on the corner of Polk. Great friendly place with a nice outdoor area, and they make a mean burger.

The Blue Line Bar right at the Damen stop; stiff drinks and decent bar food.

Thanks for all the great ideas (as well as those to come)
You guys rock! |

The huge 9-ounce burgers have gained a national rep as among the best in the country. |
