DTW to Downtown Windsor

What's the best/most cost-effective way to get from DTW to downtown Windsor, specifically the casino?

I am trouble finding anything.

Thanks.

Unfortunately RobertQ is not so convenient to the casino...their drop-off location is on the Huron Church suburban strip.

Cheapest would be the Fort Street bus (1 1/2 hours (!), 1.50 US) to downtown Detroit, then the Tunnel Bus across, then walk to the casino. really only practical for the backpacker set.

Best would probably be RobertQ to their dropoff (Holiday Inn Select) in Windsor, then local cab to the casino.

Also possible would be cab or limocar from DTW right to casino (they post prices to Windsor...only problem can be finding a driver with a passport)

The new Detroit casino's are much nicer than the windsor casinos. With the current exchange rate; you won't save any money. That said, I'd probably grab a cab.

Is there any major airport with worse ground transport than DTW? No rail, no Gray Line, no airporter bus, nothing. Just the 90-minute, 10-mph city bus ride, or taxi, or walk.

Any recent updates? Heading in to Caesars Windsor via DTW in a few weeks.

I've always driven a rental car over, but there is shuttle service from DTW to Windsor.

Don't forget your passport.

Cheers.

No real updates although the taxi situation is a bit weird...your choices are taxi/sedan (ensure driver has passport if you want to be dropped right at the casino), taxi/sedan to the tunnel/take the tunnel bus over/longish walk or taxi to Casino, RobertQ to Huron Church/cab to Casino or just do what everyone else does and rent a car (no problem at all crossing).

Just, don't forget your passport.

I can't stress how matter-of-fact crossing is here...there are loads of people who cross daily for their jobs...not a big deal as long as you've got your passport or enhanced D/L.

I just posted a question about driving from Detroit to Windsor without my current passport, which I just sent in for renewal. Then I found this thread in the Midwest forum jamiel's post intrigued me. I have a (very) old passport, a copy of my current passport, and my Florida Drivers License. In Jamiel's post above, I presume that D/L means Drivers License. But I'm not sure what this means exactly. Is it possible for me to get in (and out) of Canada with just the documents described above? M FL DL is new within the last two years.

Enhanced D/L is a separate thing from a regular D/L...it's like a passport card for crossing to canada-mexico. cheaper than a passport

If you want to go rent a car and drive down 94 to the tunnel.

Decided to tag onto this thread rather than start a new one, but situation is a little bit different.

A friend from YYZ and I are meeting 'in the middle'. He's taking a train to Windsor and I'll be driving there or to the Detroit area. We haven't decided whether we're going to meet up on the Detroit side or Windsor side. Obviously if it's Windsor I can just drive over (will bring passport). But if we decide to meet on the Detroit side, he'd have to get over.

It's been a gazillion years since I've been in downtown Detroit, much less Windsor, so I can't remember how far apart the two are via bridge or tunnel. And is there an easy way for him to get from Windsor to Detroit, such as shuttle bus, taxi, etc, and approximate cost?

Since they're now requiring passports to Canada even when driving, I'm assuming I should hand that over rather than D/L when crossing the border?

Any info appreciated.

Cheers.

Passport requirement went into effect at the beginning of 2010. The law passed not long after 9/11, but the feds kept postponing the enforcement date until last year. If your friend from YYZ is going to cross into the US, he will need a passport too.

Windsor train station is not downtown, but a mile or two east. Not sure what transportion options there are from VIA station to downtown Windsor. I assume taxi would be quick and easy. You might check if Casino Windsor runs a shuttle.
