St. Louis help, BBQ and more?
Hello everyone. I am heading to St. Louis tonight, and I wanted some advice.
I am traveling with 3 other people (two couples). We have a full day free on Saturday, looking for things to do and a great BBQ place to eat. Here are my ideas for things to do on Saturday AB brewery tour (is it worth while? free samples?) Vist the arch (is the museum worth the time to visit?) Union Station area for drinks and maybe dinner I think I get outvoted for the Cardinal game and casinos. Any other must do sort of things if you only had 1 day? Also, I was wondering if there are any great BBQ places (not chains, unless they are local chains)? I am staying by the airport, but will have a car, so no worries if the places are a little drive away. Thanks in advance for any help or ideas from everyone. Mike |
Wow, sorry I missed your post yesterday. No responses, sorry about the delay. At least you have nice if somewhat chill spring weather for your visit.
The AB brewery tour is great if you've never done one. The setup is quite Disney and all, very professional if a bit too slick. But the brewery is historic and the neighborhood (Soulard) is interesting. The arch is a must do if you've never done it as well and the museum of westward expansion is supposed to be good though it's been a while since I've been. As for BBQ there are so many places around town it's hard to say where to send you that's convenient. I would have recommended Smokin Al's, but my understanding is that the original owners are no longer involved and the place has gone way, way, way downhill. Shame. I don't know what to say about Union Station other than I think it's somewhat past it's prime. If you're interested in the architecture it is certainly worth a visit, especially to the hotel lobby and other mall areas. But not an ideal place to dine. Rather, venture over towards Washington Blvd and one of the many places there to find something to eat. A good source of dining information is www.saucemagazine.com our local foodie paper. Enjoy your stay. I'm off to the ballgame myself. I cannot believe they lost it last night. Ugh. |
