Where to go for white birch?
At first this may seem like an odd request...please bear with me, and forgive my cross-posting in the Canada forum too for similar advice.
I am a professional photographer who often works on assignments for specific clients; in this instance, I have a client asking for lots of black and white images of white birch forests in the snow. I know these are readily available from Corbis or Getty Images, but being that I get paid only for work that I do, would like to satisfy his requirement. :) Any idea where I could head this winter for such a thing? I've researched and read about northern Minnesota, near the border or Voyageur National Park; other suggestions? |

We used to live in Midland, Michigan, where there were a wealth of white birches. You might check with the Chamber of Commerce to see if there are any groves of which they are aware.

Just a suggestion to touch base w/ the Forestry departments @ WI, MN, MI universities. I have seen plenty of birch groves in WI near Hayward area but also as far south as Kohler area near Milwaukee.

I don't know how out of the way you want to go...but Thief River Falls area (MN) has quite a bit of paper birch (that's what you mean by white birch-right?).
I'm sure you've seen it already, but here is a distribution map to get a rough idea of where to find paper birch http://esp.cr.usgs.go v/data/atlas/little/betupapy.pdf |
