Red Light restaurant on Randolph
Has anyone here been to this restaurant?
I found that it participates in Idine. Here's the UA idine link Here's the link to the restaurant webpage. I read some reviews at other sites and the reviews are mixed. Some people seemed to really like the place. Others said it was all hype and overpriced. I'm wondering what you all have to say here on flyertalk. |
I had a very nice lunch here last year. At these types of places I don't expect to get alot of food but I left here quite full. My party also received complimentary appetizers too. I think Jackie Shen is doing a great job here.

Mmmm, RedLight. It's good. Had a drug rep dinner there about a year ago - excellent.

foie gras dumplings great food, some items don't live up to the described menu hype but most have IMO. pricey. |
Had an outstanding dinner at Red Light last year, but it is indeed pricey.
You absolutely MUST save room for the chocolate "volcano" dessert - it is to die for. ^ |
Just had lunch there again last week. Not an inexpensive lunch (as with dinner), but it's a great treat!

I had an awful dining experience there several years ago. I was served an entree salad that was literally crawling with bugs. I realize that fresh produce is grown in dirt, and bugs are found in dirt, but that's why you wash your vegetables as part of the preparation process. (It wouldn't have been so bad if I had noticed it before I started eating...these were little teeny tiny things that weren't obvious unless you looked closely. But I'm not talking about one or two, but dozens.) One of my dining companions told me that the last time he'd eaten there, he'd found a rubber band in one of his dishes.
Anyway, two of us had ordered the same salads, so we immediately complained, and they took them away but never offered us a replacement dish. Then I had to ask to have the cost of the salads removed from the bill. The manager huffed about it, and then took the wrong amount off the bill. When I pointed out to her that she'd took less than the full cost of the salads off, she told me I was wrong. I insisted she get a menu and confirm the prices, and when she realized that I was correct, she snapped at me and grabbed the bill away...it was as if it was my fault there were bugs in the food and that she doesn't know the cost of the items on her own menu. Problems with food that come from the kitchen are one thing, but there were other service problems, too. For example, the waiter got half way through taking our drink orders (there were 4 of us) and then wandered way, leaving the other two with no drinks. In fact, the busboy was the only one who gave decent service, and I tipped him directly, because I was leaving a $0 tip for the waiter. The irony is, on the way out, I ran into 2 professional acquaintances, and was drescribing the experience to them. They had the opposite experience. Said it was bizarre...their appetizer order had been screwed up and their waiter kept bringing them free food. |
