Looks like it was a false alarm with Buona Beef. I checked the list yesterday and the "Coming Soon" Buona Beef listings were gone. I did notice that there will be a new Wok n' Fire in Elmhurst that is "Coming Soon."

edit:
See this thread:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=627865

I guess Buona Beef is officially registered. The thread above explains that sometimes the restaurants disapper after showing "Coming soon" and sometimes they return or not.

I might also see them now b/c I did a full logout. Sdsearch explained in an Idine thread that you can be half logged on which messes up listings.

I thought I would be looking forward to Buona Beef but I'm spoiled with a Johnnie's branch near where I work. Buona doesn't come close to Johnnie's IMO. Would have been nice for other areas of Chicago though.

My cousin is friends with the founders of Buona Beef. It was a great place when it was just one place on Roosevelt Road. In the 80s and early 90s, we used to drive from Wilmette to Berwyn about once every three months just for their beef. But I have not been impressed with them for about five years, roughly around the time when they started their expansion. It's just not the same beef sandwich any more, it is more bland.

If that WokNFire in Elmhurst is going in Schiller, don't expect it too last too long. I used to live a couple of blocks away, and downtown Elmhurst is death to restaurants.

Star of Siam: Chicago, IL

Star of Siam
11 E Illinois St
Chicago, IL 60611 US
(312) 670-0100

This is just west of where Michigan Ave passes over Illinois street This restaurant has been in the program for several years. I'd see it every time I searched for restaurants in that area.

The prices were great considering it's in the city. It was way cheaper that Wok 'n Fire and the food was better. We liked the peanut sauce and they gave a whole plateful with the chicken satay. My friend liked the spring rolls and she hasn't liked them at several other Thai places we've been to recently.

So, good prices, and the food was fine so I'd have to recommend this place. I don't know if I'd say it's worth going out of your way, but definately worth a visit if you're in the area.

We get delivery from Star of Siam regularly (a lot more now that it's idine again!) For delivery to the west Loop, it's speedy (they always say an hour but it never takes that long -- sometimes we have it in 20 minutes) and reasonably priced. I especially recommend the potstickers, crab rangoon (though ask for sweet and sour sauce or you may not get it) and the pad thai (as long as you don't mind tofu in it -- even in the meat pad thais).

Now that it is a new year, I was looking around the iDine site and noticed that Jockey in Schaumburg is now listed as participating. Jockey IMO is some of the best dim sum offerings on Sat/Sun in the burbs, thread here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=405049

Good news IMO !!!!

View from a city dweller...

So I saw the 10,000 mile bonus offer and figured I'd try and jump on that. Then, I realized that I was only an "Engaged" member and not an "Elite" member because I only used iDine 4-5 times last year.

Time to kick it up a notch.

In order to advance myself into the "elite" status, I would need to visit 12 iDine restaurants, as quickly as possible. Here's where I've been to so far:

Joe's Sports Bar, 940 W Weed Street, Lincoln Park
This place is a Chicago legend. An enormous warehouse converted into a gigantic sports bar, they're pretty much assured of having any game on one of their 10 bazillion TVs. We go there often to watch UCLA games. Ambience is good - food not so much. The food is pretty standard bar fare, and it's nothing special. Go to Joe's to watch games in a crazy-college-fan environment, not for the food.

Cousin's Turkish Restaurant, 2833 N Broadway Ave, Lakeview
Interesting Turkish joint up in Lakeview. They have a raised platform where you can take off your shoes and sit Turkish-style; they also offer hookah. The food is simple but flavorful. I paid $6.00 for a decent minced-lamb entree. It was acceptable, but nothing spectacular; that said, I think I like Middle Eastern food better than Turkish food.

Calvin's Smokehouse, 2540 W Armitage, Bucktown
Ordered this one for delivery while I was working Trauma at Cook County Hospital. Decent barbeque, but nothing really special. It's acceptable when you need a fix, but I've had better. Good sauce and coleslaw.

The Chicago Diner, 3411 N Halsted, Wrigleyville
Fantastic! This is the famous all-vegetarian diner in Boystown and it's great. I had a Philly cheese "steak" sandwich and it was delicious - great flavor, spice, and you could barely tell that it wasn't actually steak! Lots of vegan and vegetarian entrees, a great juice/smoothie bar, and alcohol too. Highly recommended if you are trying to watch what you eat or just want something different. The mashed black beans were terrific too.

Itto Sushi, 2616 North Halsted, Lincoln Park
I've been told that you shouldn't have sushi delivered, and I agree. Another delivery night for the Trauma Unit. OK, but I think I rather try the sushi fresh at the sushi bar before I make any decisions. That said, I like Torajiro Sushi on Diversey better (but sadly, it's not an iDine restaurant).

Monk's Pub, 205 W Lake Street, Loop
This is a fun bar and grill right in the heart of the Loop. I stopped by to pick up lunch while moonlighting down at the County Building. The burger was decent, and the bar had a really neat ambience - felt like a European beer haus - and I stopped by for drinks after work. Recommended if you work downtown.

I'll be trying Nan's Chinese tonight, and then probably will hit Monk's again later this week.

Hope to hear other reviews from inside the city!

More city places-

Nan's- got takeout and wasn't terribly impressed. I might go back to try their Sushi.

Via Due- it's attached to Via Carducci, which is an excellent Italian place. Via Due is a little more casual. Good food, wine, and atmosphere.

O'Malley's- Michigan State bar on Lincoln. It's a bar and I wouldn't go there to eat.

Houndstooth- I love this place. The miles are a bonus. Beer is cheaper than most Wrigleyville bars and the cajun food is pretty good too. In the summer when they open up the big windows it's a great spot to people wach if you get the tables by the windows.

Las Tablas- Another bonus that I got miles here. We had a group of 12 there on NYE. Great, affordable BYOB Columbian steakhouse.

The best part about Chicago and this program is that there are so many bars. If I'm going to go out an run up a $100 tab, at least the hangover is easier to take knowing I just earned 1000 miles! There are no less than 10 bars on the list that my friends and I would hapily go to.

Stonewood Ale House - Schaumburg

Just had a client dinner here,

I had the wood grilled burger and we split an onion loaf.

All in all, not bad BUT Hackney's makes the best onion loaf hands down and I am spoiled by being able to get one of the best burgers in Chicago for under $4 at Paradise Pup which is close to my house.

So I probably won't be back to Stonewood Ale House but it was acceptable, not great.

Buona Beef locations are now active on IDine

Johnnies still rocks so it is tough to get excited over this one.

I ate at Mother Hubbard's on my recent trip. Great little sports bar. Had a pub burger and fries (huge burger). Great vibe and perfect for watching the NCAA Sweet 16 on their flat panel TVs. Pool tables, arcade games, great little pub to hang out at.

Sam Adams on tap with a great burger and fries, can't complain! ^

Tuccio's Fresh Italian Kitchen - Mount Prospect (NW Burbs)

Was at a party this past weekend where host ordered both thin and thick crust pizza.

Not good at all:td: (it's pretty bad if one can't say a pizza was good), if you must dine here thin was better but by a small margin.

Taqueria La Oaxaquena - NW side Chicago - Logan Square

Went for lunch the other day.

Associate and I split a couple dishes.

Starter consisted of shrimp, squid, and octopus all sauteed with onions, garlic and spices. Quite good.

The entree were the chicken enchiladas with mole. The mole is very dark with a very heavy flavor, good but different than "lighter" moles I've had.

I'd like to go back and try some other dishes.^
