DTW to Windsor HELP!
 

I am going to the baseball all star game in Detroit next Tuesday. The only rooms I could find (even with elite status) were in Windsor. I could have stayed at the airport, but I don't want to fight traffic from DTW to downtown where the stadium is both before and after the game.

I think I'm going with the Hilton Windsor. It seems nice enough. I would just like advice on getting from point a to point b. I know there's no super shuttle type thing at DTW. So a private car service seems my best option.

This leads me to questions of you Detroit experts:

1. Is Windsor really that convenient to downtown Detroit? I know they have an event shuttle at the tunnel that will take me straight to Comerica Park for $3.50 CAD each way.
2. What is the best and cheapest way to get between DTW and Windsor? I am not renting a car (too much trouble for less than 48 hours), so don't advise that. I'm strictly looking at paying someone else to do the work.
3. How long does it take to get from DTW to Windsor and from Windsor to Comerica?
4. How is the Hilton Windsor?

If there are any better suggestions, please advise me. Without a car, Romulus just seemed too far to get to before and after the game. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

I've been to Detroit twice. Sorry to you natives, but I really hated the place, but the park is beautiful. I'm a single young female who will be traveling alone. I have been places (including Detroit alone but on short trips and to day games). Any advice will be appreciated.

There is a shuttle bus that will take you through the tunnel, but it is not a door-to-door service. Taxis go back and forth all the time. You could get one right at the hotel. When returning after the game, it would be best to have a pre-arranged ride. Taxis in Detroit are pretty much a call ahead service.

You definitely want to use the tunnel instead of the bridge. Much shorter route to Comerica Park, although downtown has a lot of construction right now, so it may look like you are going out of the way at times.

Crossing the border is usually not a problem, except if traffic is heavy it could take a while. Morning and afternoon rush hour are two of those times. US customs requests you have two pieces of photo ID to present them. I don't always get asked for two, but always have them just in case.

I'm typing this from the 14th floor of the Renaissance Center overlooking Windsor...yes it is that easy. There are city buses (Windsor Transit) which cross...taxis...shuttle buses...etc. It actually isn't much of a river (maybe a third the size of the Mississippi in St. Louis, for instance). Just had an ore carrier pass by and blast us with his horn :)
