Help with Hotel near or @ InterContinental
 

I have a set of mtgs at the IC (Dinner and Day) for 2 nights max in the next 2 weeks (all hotel options have or can make space based on my status). However have no standing there(might cab in from ORD or rent a car--working on that now).

I am Plat with SPG, Diamond with Hyatt, Plat with Marriott, Gold with Hilton. Seems like there are plenty of options but could use some expert advice from you Chicago experts. Nights needed and promotions not going to impact the choice too much as I have plenty loaded at all. Looking for best place to get some nice treatment.

Should I even consider a stay at the IC-- (oh heavens no pts!).

Just off the top of my head here are some properties and approximate walking distances, give or take a city block, from the IC in Chicago:

Chicago Marriott Downtown (across the steet)
Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers (3 - 4 blocks)
Hilton Garden Inn on Grand Avenue (3 - 4 blocks)
Homewood Suites on Grand Avenue (2 - 3 blocks)
W Chicago Lakeshore (6 - 7 blocks)
Westin River North (4 - 5 blocks)
Westin Michigan Avenue (5 - 6 blocks)

I believe there are also a few Hyatt properties a Courtyard by Marriott and a Hampton Inn all within a few blocks as well.

As for transportation, I would go for a cab or Airport Express from O'Hare as parking in the vicinity of Michigan Avenue is at least $20 per day.

Of these choices it seems like Marriott might be best (across the Street) on a location basis.

Anyone have any thoughts on upgrades, property condition, or other info?

If you were me and had the status which would you pick?

One more (and maybe one of the better choices): Le Meridien.

It's right across the street as well, essentially next door to the Marriott.

The facade of the building is historically significant, and was taken down and re-assembled while the new hotel was built.

Someone like 200/200, might like the Peninsula also about three blocks up the street. There is also a Crown Plaza up the street.

I know this sounds crazy, but the Le Meridien in Chicago isn't the nicest Le Meridien there is--the Minneapolis one is actually much nicer. So if you're assuming because it's a Le Meridien it will be fantastic, it may disappoint you. (It's not terrible, just not as good as some of their other properties, IMHO.)

Right in the same area I would recomend park hyatt if your looking for luxury, hyatt regency chicago for somthing more affordable. The hyatt's will always treat you the best ;)

I agree - I think the reason is that the Minneapolis property, opened later than Chigago (about March 2003), incorporated LeMeridien's new Art&Tech design concept. This includes the use of frosted/opaque glass, 42" plasma televisions, "power-showers", etc. Other properties with Art&Tech rooms include the new Royal Meridien Hamburg (Sept. 2003) and also, I thnk, the LeM property on the Ringstrasse in Vienna.

Those mentionsing the Pen and the PH should note that they are a few blocks away, while the LeM and the Marriott are directly across Mich. Ave.
