Actually the "hottest" restaurant in STL right now has not been mentioned as of yet -- Red Moon (Red Moon Website). It's an Asian fusion (aka Pan-Asian) restaurant located just off of Washington Avenue downtown. It has actually been listed on national lists of "up and coming" restaurants.

Other suggestions...

Sqwires (mentioned earlier) is located in the Lafayette Square neighborhood. Neat building, great food. (Sqwire's Website)

1111 Mississippi is in the same area. Italian influenced. (1111 Mississippi's Website)

Lucas Park Grille is in the downtown/Washington Avenue district. (Lucas Park Grille's Website)

Sidney Street Cafe is in the Benton Park neighborhood. It's one of those restaurants that qualifies as an undiscovered (to most) gem. Call early for reservations! (Sidney Street Cafe's Website)

Red Moon reminds a lot of Shiitake. I absolutely loved that restaurant and can't fathom why it didn't survive.

It's interesting to see these new places sprouting up in neighborhoods other than Clayton.

Is Sidney Street really undiscovered? It always was packed whenever I went there (5+ years ago) and everyone seemed to know about it.

I loved living in St. Louis and always feel it was extremely underrated as a restaurant town.

Downtown has really become a strong location for restaurants. In June, I tried to go to Red Moon on a Saturday evening at 7pm without reservations falling victim to the "no one comes downtown to eat on a Saturday unless there is a baseball/basketball/football/hockey game" only to find the first available table for two would be at 9:30pm. With all the lofts downtown, things are changing rapidly.

Sidney Street does quite well among the people who know of it. But, I think if you asked people from the county about it, the vast majority would have no clue about it. Of course, I could be wrong!

kitchen K s food sucks, I was there a couple months ago for lunch, terrible...Agree with most of the above statements..but would have to add Charlie Gittos and Cunettos to the must go spots...Cunettos being the most reasonable
