L&L Snack Shop, Des Plaines (near NW burbs)

I’ve lived in DP for more than a few years and always whizzed by this place.

Wife and I had a Saturday am breakfast here. Delicious and the portions are huge to boot; thank God we went for a long walk along the Des Plaines River afterwards.

I had the #4, 2 Wheatcakes, 2 sausages, 1 egg. Wheatcakes were quite yum, wheaty w/o the wheat flavor being overbearing as I’ve found elsewhere. Sausages were the big plump ones, good seasonings, 1 egg was actually 2. A couple pieces of ham were thrown into my breakfast for good measure.

Wife had poached eggs with a side of ham and hash browns. Ham is wonderful; hash browns still have some odd sized hunks where the person shredding them decided the piece was too small to risk shredding his fingers.

Too much food served, nearly everyone including ourselves had a to go container when they left. I sautéed our leftover hash browns with some chorizo for the next day’s breakfast.

I’m guessing the décor for L & L has not changed in 20 years. 12 or so seats at the counter and 6-7 booths.

This was a great low key homemade breakfast.
