Como Inn
Question for Chicagoans - has Como Inn closed?
|
Sadly the answer to your question is YES. I don't recall exactly when, but I'm guessing it was probably 2-3 years ago.....
(keeping my fingers crossed that our own, indomitable SweetWillie will know the CORRECT answer!) http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdining_forum/wink.gif Best wishes...... |
yes, Como Inn is closed,
BUT.... Months after the legendary Como Inn closed its doors, the grandsons of the Como Inn's founder, Giuseppe Marchetti, have opened Como, a modern take on the Como Inn's old-world charm. Several recipes have been carried over to the new location, including chicken vesuvio, rigatoni with bolognese sauce and Nona Marchetti's recipe for roast chicken. Owner Gino Marchetti is quick to point out, however, that Como will use only fresh ingredients, where as the Como Inn would occasionally use canned vegetables to assist with the large volume of cooking. The high ceilings give the two rooms an open feel, while several booths, topped with canopies, recreate the intimate feel popular with former Como Inn regulars. Como 695 N. Milwaukee Ave Chicago, IL 312-733-7400 Hours: 5:30-10:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday (bar open until 2 a.m. Sunday); 5:30-11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday (bar open until 3 a.m. Saturday); closed Monday Brunch: 12-3 p.m. Sunday perhaps the kids are a chip off the old block? http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdi...orum/smile.gif Let us know. |
Thanks, Willie. We'll try it out on our next trip to Chicago - in about ten days.

Originally posted by Sweet Willie: yes, Como Inn is closed, Mother's Day 1991 or 92, my parents drove in to the city so we could have a Mother's Day Brunch in honor of (drum roll, please)- my mother! Of all places, we went to Como Inn (IIRC, many of the other suitably fancy restaurants in town were surprisingly closed), and I recall I had a delicious veal entree (what's the name of the style veal cooked in a way that is translated from Italian, "jumps-around-in-your-mouth"? I think the veal is rolled with chicken and cheese inside and topped with a sauce - rollatini?). Anyway, as we were exiting the dining room, in came Mayor Richard Daley with his wife, and mother, Maggie, close behind. I recall he looked quite happy (he had just won a second term). I was going to congratulate him but like my brush with Jimmy Carter, I was too intimidated and quite young. Sorry to hear that it's gone now, but that real estate must be simply worth a fortune today! |
