The best caesar salad for lunch in the loop
Since I started a low carb diet I've been eating salads everyday for lunch. Alonti Deli makes the best chicken caesar salad in the loop. Most places just have plastic containers with salad and a sealed container of dressing. I'm sure you've seen them. Alonti mixes the salad in front of you and throws in the chicken and parmesan cheese and whatever else you want. Plus it's BIG. Best of all, it's the cheapest salad I've seen. The thing I hate about salads is they always seem expensive and I don't feel like I'm getting my money's worth. At Alonti it's only $5 and that includes tax.
Alonti is scattered throughout the loop. The one I go to is in the Bank One building on Jackson across from Union Station. They also make sandwiches and pasta dishes. |
FlyByMike, do you get to see them making the dressing?
Hopefully it is w/raw egg and anchovies http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdi...orum/smile.gif I'm tired of Ceaser wannabe's. |
I had a horrible Caeser salad at Houston's, near the new Bloomingdale's Home store at the Medinah Temple. As I suspected, it was made sans raw eggs.
Weber Grill, also located in the same vicinity makes a pretty good one. |
Sorry, a little off-topic, but I just recently had the worst Ceasar salad ever at Sheraton Gateway Rosemont. Yuck http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdi...orum/frown.gif Also the other food there seemed to suck. Sure I didn't even expect anything too good from that place... just a too busy lunch meeting to go anywhere else. Do the other hotels in the area have any better restaurants?

I'm with you Sweet Willie. I'm sick to death with sh*tty fake Cesaers. Without anchovies, it's just not Cesaer salad.
Glad to hear about Alonti's. Wish I had know about it last weekend when I was there. Oh well ... |
Actually, I think that the right way to make a Caesar salad is not with a raw egg but with a coddled egg -- which is an egg that is just barely cooked -- still runny but cooked just a little bit.
It's a shame so few places make the dressing the right way. |
I have no idea how they make the dressing at Alonti. I just like it http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdi...orum/smile.gif
