Original Mortons

Four of us went to the Newberry Plaza location last night. They are currently having a steak and seafood special, 2 for $99 (not available at the Wacker Place location). It includes 2 salads (a choice of Caesar or Morton salad), a choice of a crabcake or three jumbo garlic shrimp, a filet each, one potato (large enought to share), one vegetable (also enough to share) and a choice of the Godiva cake with vanilla ice cream or creme brulee.

I have not been to Morton's in years and having heard mixed opinions, have been hesitant to go again, but thought this special would make it worth a try.

The Caesar salad was excellent (thought I don't claim to be an expert). I'm told the Morton's was good too (but I'm not a bleu cheese kind of guy). The crabcake was ok, the shrimp outstanding. The steaks were done to perfection (one in the party ordered it "blue" (ick) and said it was perfect). I love them rare with a little char on the outside - it was perfect in every way. Everyone loved the Godiva cake - I preferred the creme brulee - nice crunchy top and not cold like they just took it from the refrigerator.

The special is good thru September and no limit on the number of visits and it's available every night of the week - just might go back!
