Meigs (CGX) for commercial?

Has anyone used Meigs for a commercial flight?

I've used it w/our company plane, but have never seen any commercial traffic.

I thought I had read that UA had some (4) shuttle flights per day in/out of Meigs.

I think I remember reading that ATA connection had service (or was cutting service) to Springfield, IL from Meigs.

Up until September, United Express served SPI (Springfield). I have not seen this service offered since. If anyone has a way for me to fly commerical from CGX let me know. I love that airport.

looks like Meigs is history.

Last night the city of Chicago moved wrecking equipment onto the runway and has removed large X's of the runway making it unable to be used.

I feel bad for the owners of planes that are parked at Meigs, how do they remove their planes?!?!

Great Lakes used to operate flights as United Express from Meigs to Springfield. After it lost the United Express contract, it still operated the flights until ATA started operating MDW-SPI flights. However, it looks like there was still a 'pork shuttle' running -

Illinois officials said the closing would not halt the daily shuttle flights the Illinois Department of Transportation operated for state employees from Meigs. The shuttle, which operates between Chicago and Springfield, now will run from Midway, said Mike Monseur, a spokesman for IDOT.

Monseur said the shuttle flights often were diverted to Midway because of weather conditions. Weather caused Meigs to close as much as 25 percent of the time, city officials have said.

I am still not sure why the mayor was obssessed with the late Meigs Field, for reason other than security over the downtown airspace? Park, nature and wild-life preserve? Really?
