Things to do/restaurant recommendations in Lincoln/Omaha

The next best friends road trip will spend three nights in June in downtown Lincoln as a home base (hotel rates that week in Omaha are crazy expensive with Hampton-type hotels going for $500).

We are interested in short (1-3 hours) road trips to quirky places (e.g., small town museums), restaurants (Steak, Mexican -- actual TexMex would be a plus -- Asian; we are not foodies nor into bar scenes). Can't do a lot of walking (bad knees).

Already on my radar are the casinos in Council Bluffs and the Strategic Air Command Museum. Is the Mormon winter-over museum worth seeing?

cblaisd - Without knowing specific dates, suspect you may be around when the NCAA Baseball World Series is going on, which I imagine would add a significant layer of traffic to any endeavors downtown.

That's probably what it is....

There is not a single Hilton property in Omaha with 2-bed rooms available.

FYI— NCAA college baseball world series is in Omaha in mid June — fri June 14-Mon June 24. Fri-Thur is the group stage, Sat-Mon is a best of 3 finals

Fri, sun group A has 2 games
sat, Mon group B has 2 games

I think game times are at 2 pm and 7 pm/ 90 min after first game ends they empty the stadium and read mitt new fans

Tue-Thu elimination games
Friday is a rain make up date buffer

oregon trail and pony express historic sites are near Lincoln. Lewis and Clark follow thr Missouri River.

Consider a visit to the Museum of American Speed in Lincoln, fascinating collection of vintage racing cars ...
Beatrice to visit the Homestead National Monument of America, where you can learn about the Homestead Act and pioneer life on the Great Plains.
Maybe Nebraska City to visit the Arbor Lodge State Historical Park & Museum too
