Visiting Michigan for a week. Suggestions for must see places

Visiting Michigan during July 4th week. This forum helped us a lot in planning our previous trips to Miami, Washington DC and South Padre island.
We are going to Detroit, Michigan between 07/01(outbound) and 07/11 (return). We will be based out of Detroit area and staying there on 07/02,07/03 and 07/10. Planning to visit Nayagara falls on 07/04 and 07/05 and Upper Michigan peninsula between 07/06 and 07/09. Please suggest some must see places in Detroit, activities to do in Nayagara Falls (July 4th fireworks) and Upper Peninsula. We are planning to visit Michigan university either on 07/02 or 07/10.

Thanks

One possibility is Greenfield Village in Dearborn.

This forum had helped me when I was searching for info for my road trip.
You might find something helpful from my TR with link below:

Thanks for the information. Do we need to buy tickets to see Nayagara falls or boat trips in advance?

Also assuming that we can cross back and forth between USA and Canada with US pass port right? I have booked Hampton inn in USA side. Wondering if it is worth staying in Canada side? We can always go back to Canada side as needed right?
These are the attractions in Niagara,
- Journey behind the falls
- Niagara falls observatory Tower
- Niagara botanic gardens
- Niagara falls mist ride
If we stay Canada side, i am assuming we have to go with different attractions.

You can stay on either side of the border to access any of the Niagara Falls attractions. All you need are your passports. You can even walk across the border over the Rainbow Bridge as long as youre not terrified of heights. Take your picture on the bridge with one foot in each country.

Niagara-on-the-Lake (Ontario side) is a nice town to visit, too.
