New bus service between DTW and downtown Detroit -faster, more frequent

SMART began a new limited stop service yesterday along Michigan Ave. Buses run every 30 minutes and stop at both North and McNamara terminals at the airport.

Never thought I'd see SMART (I guess they no longer use SEMTA?) do something like this. Wonder why Livonia has no service. Wanted to connect to Livonia Marriott for a May conference.

Nice to see my old Route 851 Park & Ride from Farmington down to Wayne State is still around, three decades after I last used it

This would have helped my confederate Jim Egan a bunch if it had been in effect in April 1991. {Yes, Jim Egan flew Southwest Airlines before I did. He had to work a half-day at Concordia Univ.-River Forest. So he could not ride along with myself & John Keller as we drove to Detroit.} His late-afternoon flight into Detroit City Airport {Yes, WN flew into there back in 1991.} landed @ 5:30 pm. He took a taxi to Cobo Arena.

It hasn't been SEMTA since at least the 90s. FAST service is express to/from downtown on 3 major corridors, Woodward/Gratiot/Michigan(DTW). Hopefully they will expand it to other routes in the near future.

'Bout the time I moved out here. I'm still surprised to see buses on major roads (like 15 Mile) when I come home for visits. Good to see public transportation is improving in the region.

Got used to 24/7 every 15 minutes out here.

Will have my first visit to Detroit in late January and staying at the Renaissance Center (and spending all my time there for a conference so won't need a car) -- is the SMART bus a solid option to get from airport to Ren Cen? I'm quite used to public transit in various other cities so if it's your basic bus service, I'm all for it.
