Kansas City BBQ restaurant near MCI?

Hi all! Will be having a quick overnight at MCI with a rental car. Any recommendations for authentic Kansas BBQ as close to the airport as possible? Thanks!

Smokebox
http://www.smokeboxbbq.net/
is going to be the nearest. It's decent. Not in the same league as Gates but a solid "B." Worth a trip.

Smokehouse isn't too bad. It's about 10 miles south. While i wouldn't put it in the top tier, they do have great baked beans. I make them at home occasionally. Never been to Smokebox

The airport is sort of in a BBQ no man's land. If you've a rental car, I'd personally recommend just driving down to Arthur Bryants or Joe's to get the real deal. Smokebox is probably fine (never been) but if you don't get here often then I'd recommend driving the extra 10-15 minutes for a known place.

-Joe's KC
-Arthur Bryant's
-Jack Stack
-Q39 (newer place but already in the top 10)
-Char Bar
-Gates
-Woodyard
-Rosedale
-Slaps

Thanks all! Based on your feedback I'll make the extra effort to head more into the city and check out one of the local favorites!

Since it's relatively close to the airport, I'll throw in that Pullman's BBQ in downtown Parkville, MO is a new place near my house that I think is amazing. Best burnt ends in KC IMHO. Lifetime KC resident here.
